Default gotta be away of...

checkin my pistons with out takein them out again. there was now heavey breathing when i took the dipstick out and the comp test was good. ive took my head off now to get that checked so i have filled my bores up with oil to see if it disapears. any other ways???

I would have done a cylinder leak test first chap....saves alot of time and effort.

im sure the garage did that but neva showed anythin because he tryed sayin it was the turbo


is that the one where they blow air in to it??

yeah, piston at tdc or bdc with valves shut then fill with compressed air...the gauge should be your first indication of a problem then you check to see where its leaking by on the engine...out of filler cap/dipstick its gonna be rings...hear it in the tail pipe its exhaust valve leaking by and same again for the inlet valves if you hear air rushing by in the throttle housing.

its in one of my other subjects

i leave it on idle and its ok then starts to smoke an gets worse quit bad actually then loads will come out as i pull off then clears up when im driving then get a bit of smoke when i slow down then pull back off

That sounds more like knackered valve guides to me chap...you had these checked??

This the same garage that condemed the turbo? Valve guides are easy enuff to check...remove valve retainer and spring and stem seal...pull valve down enuff just to sit below the top of the guide..place a finger over the top of the guide to seal it then quickly pull out the valve...an amount of suction should be present if not then they are scrap. Some people check just be wagling the valve about in the guide also but it doesnt really tell you much if you dont know what to compare the amount of play present with. The old quides would need pressing out, new guides pressed in then honed out to size....I had mine replaced last year...cost about 7quid per guide for fitting/honing plus the cost of the guides.

head has been checked nothing rong with it so i have pulled the block out and takeing that tomorow so they can check that got a bad feeling that the bors are worn as there are new pistons an rings in it so if thats the case ill need over size rings or the block sleaving but dont no how that effects the power im runnin

(no it was the rolling road that said it was the turbo)

Its not worth the bother chap...for the cost of piston sets for a yb you may as well go oversized and have a rebore...its done right then.

i was told my bors were ok at first o wel have to wait and see what the garage says so if there worn does that mean i need to buy bigger pistons hope not only brought these 2 mounths ago

Depends how they checked your bores...many garages run their finger nail over the lip at the top and decide that way The bores need properly measuring down the full stroke and checking against propers specs....a turbo'd cars engine goes thru alot more grief than a n/a lump and so needs to be spot on, no guess work allowed.
