Default my smoking problem... who can help?!

Hi guys,

Basically - after I had my car remapped, and ITG air filter fitted, it smoked like f**k, see video below:

This was pretty funny at first, but then got a bit tiring with the car being so black on the back all the time.

Anyway - I spoke to the mapper who said it shouldn't be doing that, and looked at the program he'd written me; said all looked fine.

I cleaned the MAF sensor, which made it a little better - but it was still smoking.

Finally, I tried taking out the ITG filter, and putting back the standard Ford filter - all of a sudden 99% of the smoke dissapeared, and it felt more powerful.

I have since found out it is probably the ITG filter is overoiled, and as such the turbo can't spool as quickly, hence the black smoke at low revs and WOT. (the boost is calculated on a 1.4 TDCi, not sensed by a sensor).

My question to you guys is,

How could I clean off some of the oil, but not all of it?

Also - I have some K&N filter oil, could I use this on an ITG filter if I totally washed it all off?

Thanks,

JP

Could you not wash the filter with water and fairy liquid?

Not too sure on using the K&N oil but if it were me personally i'd give it a go, up to you if you want to risk it or not

Above all though, is the performance filter really necessary? What about modding your airbox to allow more flow?
