Default Cosworth starting problems and grey-blue smoke

right....i had my cossie out around a week ago for its first time in months, and it seemed to be runnin reely well. I tried to start it up yesterday and it took along time to fire and when it eventually started was only running on 1-2 cylinders and chuckin alot of grey-blue and white smoke out (smelt petrolly). Now ive changed the plugs and its just the same. initially we thought the turbo had gone but theres now play in the shaft at all and spins freely....brief spec: 8 greens, T4 low comp....any ideas?
thanks
Dave

1st call would be do a compression check and go from there as this could save alot of time!

i think the fact you are suggesting a compression check is because u suspect it has knackered rings/ valvetrain causing poor compression?....i dont know how this could happen when it was running fine...then came to start it a few days later and its fukked lol

no m8 just makes sense to eliminate that line 1st as IF it has compression on all four then your problem lies else where so less ŁŁŁŁ hopefully

what were the plugs like that you took out?

the plugs were quite sutty...but also a little wet with petrol...a new set of plugs made no difference though

could be valve stem seals/guides... my saff used to smoke on gearchanges and when idling for a long time... to the point that it would run on 3 for ages! it was okay after a good thrash though!

change the coolant temp seonsor as its 20 quid and usually causes all the sypmtons you are describing.

right, ive done a comp. check and all seems fine

no. 1= 149 psi
no. 2= 158 psi
no. 3= 160 psi
no. 4= 160 psi

i know no.1 s a bit low but nothing to worry bout, straight after i did the comp test...put the plugs back in and plugged the injectors back in and it fired straight up... ...another concern is, that its sounds like a diesel on start up? but compression is ok

Sounds like its getting to much fuel, as euan said try the coolant temp sensor, if its goosed itl keep chucking fuel in which if the cars cold will run poor, cheap to buy too

those comp figures would seem fine imo so as mentioned above also check the CO,map sensor, fuel regulator and that the timing HASN'T/jumped moved!

good idea to look at your dizzy cap, rotor arm as might have got abit of crap in there!while there check your phase sensor wires check the insulation in the wires are all good!but to be honest imo sounds like wot said above coolant temp sensor

If its over fueling then it has to be sensor related...

No way a duff dizzy or cap rotor or even fooked rings can cause that.

It will be coolant sensor or dodgy map sensor/connections.

well, as said above it seems to be running fine now, was probably a dodgy map sesnor connection as i had a fiddle with that....there is a lot of piston slap when its started from cold though, only just really noticed....something to worry bout?
