CVH Head Exhaust Manifold Studs Coolant Leakage Problem

Morning All
Sorry if this is a stupid question!
If an exhaust manifold stud is removed from the bottom row on a CVH cylinder head will coolant leak out?
This happened to me yesterday whilst fitting four branch and want to know if I have a serious problem or not.

If you have water leaking through a exhaust manifold stud hole(when removed) you have problems, as this shows it is open to the waterways inside the head, not good.
Am I understanding this question right ?

I had a stud fitted thats longer than the original one so I think that it's cracked through into the waterway behind.
Not sure if I can just refit stud with some kind of chemical metal or sealant behind it to seal up the crack or just take the head off and get it repaired or the whole hole welded up-anyone any ideas!

Thats great advice, thankyou.
As soon as the stud is in the hole the leak stops, as it's a new engine just fitted it has been run for approx 10mins on the drive with no problems and driven home for approx a mile, again no problems. Will need to keep an eye on coolant level though.
Will the exhaust paste be waterproof though?
If I use the "bung" method any suggestions of what to use or where to get a suitable "bung"?

I personally would get a tiny bit of copper the same size as stud, 8MM ?, and put this in before the stud as this will compress the copper which is a soft material and squeeze it to shape, even into threads, make sure copper is soft type ie MALEABLE.
It is unlikely that it would leak here anyway, so you might just want to keep and eye on level .

as i said the other day mate, if the leak stops when the stud is in it should be ok.
make sure that you cut the stud down to the original length so it wont cause a blockage in the head.
just use some red gasket paste from halfords and it will be fine

Just been speaking to the cylinder head reconditioners who skimmed the head for me, they found the bottom centre stud hole open into the waterway when they pressure tested it, apparently it is like that from the factory and some people fit the stud with Loctite just in case.
So I assume that they are right and will keep an eye on the coolant level.
