Default Will a DVD player play AVI format?

I have a few films in AVI format that i'd prefer to watch on my tv and not pc. What format do they have to be in to burn to dvd disc and play on a normal dvd player?

If they need to be changed what program do i need to use?

No I don't think DVD players will play AVI's

I believe it has to be either VCD, DVD, SVCD, MPEG1 or MPEG2 and there is software that will convert it just takes a little searching

if your burning them to disc with nero, nero changes the avi file to a file that plays on most dvd players....but...i have a few avi files around 690 mb that when nero converts them, they are to big to fit on a cd i now convert all that wont fit to dvd format and burn to dvd

Mine plays AVI's quite easily, but it depends on what type of player and how old it is.

I would try it with an AVI, if it doesn't play then use something like CUCUSOFT to convert it to a DVD video format. Burn the folder structure to a DVD and bingo, instant pirate DVD

Cheers

Matt

Unless you have a divx dvd player then avi's will not play on them. You will need to encode the avi to mpeg/vob to be able to watch it on your dvd player.
