Default A new idea... ADULT discussion welcomed.

If you want to moan and generally take the piss or go off topic, dont bother as it will likely end in a ban for teh night...

Now then.. to important forum business.

Due to my recent rule change that dissallows any old person joining PF with a trade username and selling/ripping people off, it has come to light that it would be of interest and value to teh forum if we had certain well known people designated as "Official PassionFord Technical Advisors"

People whom yourselves and newbies knew could be trusted to give you good honest and reasonably accurate advice that wont kill anything. People who, if they dont know pretty much for sure the answer, will at least tell you so and not pretend they know, leading you into potential problems...

Now, i am all for this system, but what do you lot think, and IF you approve, who would you consider suitable?

Discuss... BUT keep it decent or i will shift it to the gold members only policies room with all teh other weeks arguments.

Definatly sounds a good idea, can't really see any bad side to it, unless the certain people start thinking they're the best thing ever compared to normal users, but we're all grown ups on here.....................I think!

And I'm sure it'll sort the truth from the bullshit.. I mean we know whose advice we'd be able to trust.

Stu - sound like a good idea - but the people that would be able to do this are people like Karl Norris, Tony Mannock, etc - and newer members would be recognising them by their user names relating to their company - ie, TurboSystems, Norris Motorsport etc.... Which they can't have cos of the new (and understandable) ruling...

Not sure about it to be honest. I think the user name idea is good. But an awful lot of "Normal" non traders offer useful and friendly advice. With the Technical Advisors it would make the place even more picky and would be come a place where the face fits people would get help and answers but joe public is ignored or laughed off.

Does that make sense.

I think it's an amazing idea and will set Passion Ford even further ahead of the rest.

People like

Turbosystems, Karl Norris, Mark Shead, Chip, Bosch Man, SECS, Stavros, Martin Hadland etc etc.

We have considered this and its a "possibility" that "IF" they choose to help PF out technically in this way, then we could allow them their uisernames back. MAINLY because all the people we are suggesting sio far have been long standing members of the forum. NEW traders who dont pay would likely not recieve the same ruling.

No, not necessarily Mike, i think if someones happy to do it, good at it and gives accurate advice, like you good self, then they can go for it regardless of any forum status.

Again I think that's a very good idea as it would mean people knew that the users who had names relating to their companies i.e Turbosystems we're reliable if they are new to the site/cosworth world etc.

If you are confident enough in Phils advice to personally apply it to your own Ł20K engine then feel free to nominate him.

it's potentially a good idea

but tbh there are many people on here who's advice isn't actually on the money....myself included (yes i do try to help obviously not to the same level of the names mentioned)

it 'may' only serve to alienate the members who do try to help constantly in all forums, not just GD.

who knows...worth a try surely though

If it encourages more of those 5 page technical posts we occassionaly get on here, then it's a a great idea.

Obviously, having a designated title aas a technical advisor might leave some people open to recrimination etc.... Might be worth making sure that any advice given by thesee "qualified" people comes with the warning that it is taken at your own risk - i.e. views of the writer only etc...

Only saying this, as you know how dumb some people can be on the internet, and read only what they want to read.

Would strengthen the forum otherwise though

Not a good idea, in my opinion.

Its like saying these 10 or so people know all there is to know and all other advise should be ignored as you do not have a badge to say your input is worth while.

Like i said, in my opinion.

Funny thing though 28469 members, 10-15 that know what they are talking about

What would be the possibility of having a brief CV of these Techies, who they are and what they do etc so a n00b could get a slightly better insight rather that it just being 'some dude from t'internet'.

IMO the main tuners in Stu, Karl, Cardyboy, Martin, Tony Mannock, Even Si Secs as his stuff is/was fair good should be in, but please not Harvey as he cant type for shit (unless someone types for him).

Do you honestly believe that all 29000 members know who is and isnt technically minded?

I doubt even the 65 who joined this week know, let alone the full 29000 pal!!

Sorry to seem negative about it but you make a rule that doesnt suit some greater Gods and now its open for a change
Slow down Paul, i said its an OPTION and PURELY think its an option as it strengthens the issue at hand. There are only 2 traders listed at all so far, so it doesnt alter teh fact that teh other 50+ we have PM'd still cannot hide behind a trade name anymore and nor can any new ones join. A succesfully implementation of teh rule IMO.

Anyway, as said, nothing is set in stione yet, its just an option open for discussion, and your objection is understood and duly noted.

give it a shot then.....the names mentioned above can offer advice all day long

personally i wouldn't listen to much a couple of them said anyway..but IF they can help then fine.

i don't really see the need myself...i mean it was the same for all of us, we had to sift through the numpties but it's not a totally bad thing at all.

i defo think it'll put some people off helping though

Clever idea IMO as the amount of complete incorrect utter bullshit said on here and other forums is unbelivable.

But as people dont know those people havent got a clue, they believe em.

Another site suggestion would be the ability to moderate your own threads in the resto/project room, as soo many are cluttered up with irrelivant crap.

Yes but there are are other people such as Mike who cover other key stuff such as suspension and brakes in detail. The tuners in most cases cover just engines IMO.

The point was brought home to me recently when i was working on a car i dont often modify and visited one of its native forums to find out what plug they tend to use when running over 350bhp.

Bugger me if i found 3 different heat ranges, all guaranteed to work perfectly.

It annoyed me that not one of them seemes to have any possibility of being clued up, so in teh end i just took pot luck and tried a set i thought would be fine. Guess what... it WASNT one of teh ones mentioned on teh forum!! And it WAS right.

the simple fact is though, had a well known tuner of that marque given an answer in his own name, id have likely started there with some peace of mind... Which is why i think this idea will work.
