Default Car wont stop??!!

I changed the engine in my s1 recently because the old one lost all compression. I had a spare s2 block and head which I knew where fine so I gave them a clean up and bolted them in. Obviously with all new seals and gaskets, I also fitted new plugs, leads, cap, and rotor arm.
After a few attempts it fired up, it was running a bit lumpy and idleing at 2k revs, I saw sparks coming off the leads so they were changed but eventually it cut out and wouldnt start. The reason was fuel had stopped leaving the metering head. I changed this for a s2 item and it fired up again but still idled high. So I screwed in the idle screw on the base of the throttle body, had no effect, screwed out the mixture screw to run it lean, still no effect and now I cant turn the thing off!!
Ive checked the timing and it is spot on, checked all the plugs on the inlet manifold and theyre fine, checked for air leaks and all seems fine so Ive run out of ideas now.
Any help and ideas will be greatly appreciated, cheers
Sorry for rambling lol

I checked it for a leak and couldnt hear/feel one but I changed it anyway for a spare one I had, all sorted, runs a lot better now, and it turns off!! lol. Cant believe over fueling would keep it running with the power cut off!? Strange. Cheers fella

You can't turn it off

You've got a fairly substantial electrical fault if you can't turn it off

Its probably idling high because the auxiliary air device has seized

Yeah just went out to check it again today after charging the battery, started up and idled perfect but didnt turn off. The battery light stays on, its had a new alt. a few weeks back as was fine then, is it possible the return charge off the alt. isnt reaching the battery, instead connected with something it shouldnt???

I havent no, it worked fine before and I cant see the need to be honest. I havent messed about with it, only changed the engine so I cant see why I would need to.
Ive been told the timing may need to be retarded slightly but the last thing I wana do is start playing around with that especially when it idles fine with no misfire throughout the rev range.
The alt., starter and battery are all wired up fine so im well confused!!??

Something is up if you can't turn it off!

ignition switch would be my first port of call, being as everything is still getting power to keep the engine running!

It has to be an electrical fault, its not like a diesel it can't run off self combustion.

My money is on the ignition switch
