if your needing a temporary solution to use the car, bridge these:

Ive got an S2 relay wired into my S1 as you may know its even harder to get an S1 relay, but it should be the same.
oh, this basically bridges the 12v live to the fuel pump so it runs constantly when you turn ignition to #2, please be aware that it wont cut the fuel pump in an accident touch wood!!

vroooom ptssssh ive told you a few times now you're not really meant to do that.
The ignition supply isn't designed to feed a pump that consumes 10A+ of current, additional to the fact the ignition circuits AREN'T fused
Someone is going to have meltdown one day from doing that.........
If you are after a relay i have a few second hand ones which work, im not using this as a sales pitch in any way, if you need one give me a shout

SafeChav, You've never told me i'd have a "melt down" U jus sid it's not very safe in the event of an accident iirc as fuel pump would still run!
And fuck asking him for a Relay ive asked numerous times and he's not gave me a price or f'all

If you run it off the ignition supply its also unfused, and not up to the job.
Either way...........its not ideal.
You've got no excuse really a proper S1 relay is only £25, which i've also told you numerous is times is far superior to the purple piece of shit S2's and XR3i's have.
You can't just plug it in, the pin pattern on the plug is the same, but the wires need changing around to different positions.
The reason your plug has been changed, i can almost guarantee is a result of having a wanky purple one plugged in to start with, they overheat internally, melt all their solder joints and eventually the heat conducts through to the plug and melts that aswell

They appear on eBay very regularly..........

what you mean a 15 year old pump,,,, that when it wears draws more current making the relay melt,,,,, or a 15 year old relay that failed due to a bald soldering joint,,,,,, but lasted 100k miles before it failed,,,,,,
its the pump, it will work again but you will need another one in 2 years average

my fuel pump realy just went on my nova.
its actually quite common but mine was because it got water in it.
u can probably take the cover off the relay and see the insides.
the tracks on the pcb may show signs, and will probably smell of a nasty burning/singeing smell.
only a blaitent sign or water damage or something similar would mean it definately aint ur pump.
because with electricity its now how much current u throw at a component. its how much it will pull.
so if the pumps fucked it would of pulled more than the usual 10amps or so and ruined the relay.
i'd be taking the relay apart right now and see what sort of condition its in.
a brand new original wehrle relay for mine was only £9.95

we'll he'll need a new relay what ever as his one melted.
unless the relay was full of water i'd check the pump out though. as there is probably a reason the relay went.
but if what was said above about the relays being crap and often going is right then might not be worth forkig out on a new pump if they are expensive.
could always run a cable from the battery to the pump, fuse it and put an ammeter on it and see what the pump is pulling.

But in the majority of cases yes, the pump more than likely will be knackered.
