found out what my horrible scrapey reversing problem was... the inner edge of the wheel esccos wheel) is scraping on the shock!!!

this cant be right surely?!
also i cant for the life of me work out what the clonking when turning is thought it was tyre ctching arch liner... but it aint

spacers needed it sounds like for th erubbing and clonking, dunno get it up on a 4poster n have a jiggle/listen!

 

why not get a mate to stand outside while you turn around him?then you can figure it out! looks like coilover time meboy!

 

 

bigwig, thats how we found out the shock hitting problem...

cant work out the going forward rubbing, as you gotta be going quite quick for it to happen... lol

coilovers are arriving ASAP... but i dont think thatlll solve problem as the width of the shock will stay the same!

 

is the rear end the same as a cossie?cos i had those wheels (soon to be reunited ) on mine and had no probs with 215/40/16s on with avo coilovers. if not do you want the entire rear beam off me cossie? still got it lying around,got new discs for it too!dont want much,need rid.

 

so its not catching on the spring then mate, nor the spring holder- but further down- surley it should still be a bit smaller in diameter shouldn't it??

oh, and i saw your old shed drving towards bromley about 20 mins ago- lock the doors, and pretend your out if he's heading your way

 

aint the springs separate on a saff?not on the shocker? unlike coilovers where its 1 unit. so diameter would be the same

 

rear setup is same as cossie... ie seperate coil n spring (its the estage that have it all in 1)

also its rubbing on the thin part of the shock, below the spring/spring cup!!!

and thinking about it, the distance between the shock and the wheel can surely NEvER change? so why does mine touch only on full lock? WTF can be bust?

 

ps its the FRONT that causing problems, rear is fine

 

on the front? inner arch plastic liner! is it the same side as the washer bottle? if so the bottle may be hanging off(bolt not done up) and pushing the arch liner onto the wheel,had this problem for a bit on mine.soz thought your first prob was on back.

 

Sounds like it's bent then Jim (check where it goes into the hub carrier) !! Or maybe wheel bearing is completely shagged!!

one side it rubbing slightly, but this is more of a smooth rub, not a knock knock knock like its catching on something

 

yeah,the wheel will only rub on the liner,then when you turn itll hit the liner as its being pushed in.

ppolybushes are being ordered asap just incase its that...

so i'll be replacing shox and bushes...

so unless ive got a fooked hub or a fooked wheelbearing i should be ok nothing else there to go wrong i dont think... lol

 

Jim, there is no bush between the wheel and the shock, so it won't be that. Wheel bearing is the only thing I can think of

 

Jim IIRC you have standard sierra hubs up front and not cossie ones, so its very likely that you have less offset hence the wheel is closer to the strut

The clonking, does it only do it on full lock and is it from the front or rear

If front check tca's, tre's front wheel bearings

If rear check cv's, wheel bearings

 

front...

outer tca bushes are a bit manky if thats a help...

does it on any turning tbh but more noticeable on lock

 

on my frst had the same fault turned out that when i had got the wheel ballanced they used bang on lead wieghts and thats what caused the problem


also we had a bm in work on friday who hit a kerb and flat spoted his eim on the inner edge and that was hitting the suspension track rob ends


just ideas that i have all the best mate

 

Check bottom ball joint, jack up car and see if theres any verticle movement in the ball joint

 

plan of action:

on wednesday the following will be replaced: Outer TCA bushes (poly), suspension top mount bushes (poly), shocks/springs (coilovers)

also will have everything inspected ie ball joints, wheelbearings etc. etc. etc.

if that dont sure it... f**k kows what will
