Default Bluefin on FRS

What should be expected after this is installed?

Boost seems identical, 222 on the digital readout. Drives identical and seems to have done sweet fa. Car is otherwise standard.

What boost are others getting with/out bluefin?

Simon, yeah 100% mate. When its loaded it confirms by reading 'bluefin installed' took for a drive and deffo no difference.

Reloaded original which was successful, took for drive again, pulled over in layby and reloaded, again no difference!

Really wound up at moment as its the only part which has been delivered correctly!!

Mmmm, Could be superchips loaded the wrong map into the unit ???

I think you will be sending it back to be double checked !

Rob @ SCC may be the man to talk to before you do anything

Hope its something like that, really disappointed with bluefin at mo tbh.

Unit was from Rob but after speaking to him and Superchips direct ive decided to send it back whilst in 7 day refund period.

Weak actuator has benn suggested but ford say this is unavalible seperate from the turbo like other RSs

The digital readout on the Focus, if you hold down the trip when starting, is that the signals that are sent to the ECU being interpreted?

If so, if they were reading incorrectly then the car would also fuel incorrectly? They must be of a reasonable resolution and reliability if they are the ECU signals?

They are ecu derived signals so reflect what is actually happening

Seems being told that readout is 'rubbish and not accurate' is bollocks then!

Readout being unaccurate could be that the sensor side of things on the FRS isn't very good, as I know the dash gauge has always been slated for not being accurate. You should notice a big difference with the Bluefin mate, I'd send the unit back and get it checked.

First thing I did to mine was BF/decat/K&N Gen II and it made a huge difference!

The dash uses the FORD SCP J1850 Data bus to move data around the
car. This is used by everything from ECU, ABS, Radio, Dash, lighting etc...

For example, On the ST (sure its the same for the FRS),

The wheel sensors used on the abs, feed infor to the abs ecu,
data is then sent out on the data bus (after the dash unit requests it)
to get the road speed for the dash and the traction control systems.

Only one sensor feeds multiple systems to save money and less parts
to go wrong.

So there will be ONLY one pressure sensor for the ecu of which the dash
displays the available data. Not sure what the value you say (222)
represents though. Probally 2.22 kpa (kilo pascals absolute).

Dont know what standard boost the FRS runs but after removing the
absolute atmospere pressure......
1.2 bar boost ???
(possibly showing half kpa in which case its 0.6 bar boost) ????????

Even if this is wrong the data will be consistent.
I.E. If your cars boost shows 222 on standard map and the same on
remapped then you have a problem as clearly the boost hasnt risen
for what ever reason.

there is i spose a small chance the car was already bluefinned, could this be found out? 3rd owner of car so could have been done by either of the previous.

On the analogue gauge the boost holds in the blank bit just after the white square and before the red. This is uphill in fifth, foot flat, tails off at end as expected due to standard turbo.

^ Thats a very helpful reply Simon, yes the boost is i believe in kpa. Judging by other threads the FRS should run 0.9bar as standard and 1.3 with bluefin.

some come with more power as standard and bluefin seems to be less use on there cars. It should boost into the red on the gauge with bluefin. remember the torque is limited in 1st and 2nd anyway so you will need to test it in third gear.

i think bluefin runs about 1.2 which is 17psi, the majority that fit boost controller only run 20/21psi.

Tests were back to back today up a half mile medium gradient in fifth gear.

I was aware of the boost limit in 1st and 2nd but kinda hoped Bluefin may remove this aswell, probablly saves the transmission tho

Edit; Been using this for BAR to PSI, comes in handy and is english; http://www.britishmetrics.com/html/pis-bar.htm

You would know if it had worked, the difference is dramatic. Well, it is with ours anyway, and im sure Bluefin are pretty good too.

it lifts the torque limit in 1st and 2nd but does not remove it completly. where does it boost too on the gauge? into the red?

Get one from Rob, I had it fitted at the same time as my boost controller but TBH there's no reason why you cant fit it yourself. Just get yourself a boost gauge so you can test the boost accurately once fitted.

As above m8.................the difference from standard to having bluefin installed is awesome...................on analogue gauge standard boost won't touch one bar but with bluefin installed it will hit and stay at 1.5 bar

Mate has one installed, got him an extra 10hp from standard.

Drives almost no differently from my other mates completely standard one which got perfect 212bhp at SCC the other weekend.

You people need to be looking into whats happening with your Focus's then. Why are you just accepting that its fine to get virtually no performance change?

How much is a Bluefin?

I know when i ran Bluefin on my normally aspirated Focus once it was loaded it took around 50 miles to really feel the difference, i installed it, drove out to the motorway, sat on the motorway for about 20mins then really felt a difference once i came off!

I haven't read all the above posts but as i remember Bluefin is a 'learning' program and does need to 'see' all the load sites in the map before it alters things...

Give it a chance and see how it runs...

rssteve Will just for a split second go into red sometimes. Just before red, just after white finish's most of the time.

S1
It is from Rob, dont see why it would make a difference tho :~

Stu @ M Developments
I have had a few different RS's chipped before and certainly noticed the difference, although all had actuator changed and preload set at same time.
What boost does your remap usually hold to on an otherwise standard car?

Bluefin is Ł450 at least, most places charge more.

Quick update;

Bluefin was returned and inspected, the car did have a standard Ford map on it!

Ordered up a new Forge actuator in the hope this is the problem, then ill prob re-order the Bluefin and try again. Anything else i should consider tho?

I 'finned mine and wasn't exactly overwhelmed by the increase. Compared to the difference a "stage 1" gives on a Cossie or RST they are a very disappointing mod for the money IMO.

Best mod i've done is a decat & exhaust, the decat alone makes a massive difference.

Oh, and raising the torque limiter in 1st/2nd would be absolutely pointless

^ Decat has arrived today as it happens, after some issues with delivery, so thats promising. Miltek is already on and im happy with that.

Wasnt a case of little difference, it was NONE lol.

Why would torque limiter removal be pointless, traction is not an issue in the dry on a decent surface.

uping the torque limit is good for 2nd IMO as you do get grip in the dry and in the wet i don't floor it in 2nd as it will spin what ever.

You should notice a big improvement with the decat mate

My comment about the torque limiter....mine is absolutely useless in the wet/damp in 3rd, and spins the wheels in 4th sometimes, never mind 1st and 2nd.

Even in the dry it has really bad torque steer on anything but a glass like surface, it's bloody dangerous TBH as the diff doesn't seem to react like I expect it too works extremely well on track, but flooring it out of a rough roundabout (which most of the UK's are) is a different matter. Saying that, when you get it right, the speed it can exit a corner is hellish...

Seems Evo may have something with the FRS varying.

Torque steer is present but nothing like an old RST or the like, easily held on chosen line unless the road is really badly cambered or bumpy.

Traction is fantastic for FWD, obviously decent tyres at the right pressure are required, but even in the wet 3rd is rarely an issue.

Bar the Puma, prob the best chassis Ford have ever released to the general public in the uk. When driven at the limits an amazingly capable FWD car, that will shame many percieved quicker

Besides the torque steer I can't fault it, handles incredibly well for a large, tall hatchback, and extremely responsive too, really lets you know whats going on.

I had a Boxster pre FRS and the FRS is nearly as much fun to drive, thats quite a compliment believe me.

I wouldn't mind getting mine RR'd to see what it's putting out, as i've heard std power figures vary a lot.

Well the Decat is now on and its certainly made a difference. Much nicer to drive and sounds loads better.

Dunno if power has increased but it does seem so, although the noise probably has an effect on the sensation.
