Just a general question, would you bother making a cosworth out of a 1.6 shell incase of the usual 'it's not a proper cosworth' comments your bound to get
It wouldn't a replica or anything, EVERYTHING cosworth would be used on it, it's just it would be a none out the factory cosworth shell (no sunroof i expect).
Just people thoughts i wanted

depends wheter your trying to pass it off as a real one or not, some people wouldn't like others wouldnt mind. i wouldnt mind once its been done right, some reshells are done shit
why are you asking us its your car if your happy with it who cares what everyone else thinks, if i smashed my saph up and a mint 3 door sheel came up i would do it, wouldnt bother me in the slightest......

I'm just thinking say you looked at a 5k shitter of a 3 door or a minty fresh painted 1.6l for the same money?
I think i'd still lean towards the real one even though being a 1.6l log book doesnt actually bother me

for a genuine 3 door shell with no numbers in it you will be looking at between 2-4k depending on pannels.
To buy a used shell and id ,around 1.5k.
depends on yer budget ,i personaly have a re-shell into a genuine shell, but if it hadnt have came allong at a reosonable price i would have done the 1.6l route

economically it makes no sense at all. by the time you decide to fit loads of new bits while you are at it you will end spending rs500 money on it and at the end it will be worth a couple of grand.
makes far more sense to spend a couple of k on a cossie shell instead which is what I decided to do with mine.
trouble is there are not any genuinely mint shells with an id out there even if you are paying a couple of k or more. any truly mint rust free shell will still be a whole car. after all why would you break a true minter?
where as I found a near perfect one six shell.
other advantage is that shells fatigue. hundreds of bhp and firm suspension does them no good especially places like the front turrets. a one six shell hasn't had the same cornering and acceleration forces through it.
In the end I decided to me that the paperwork was less important than the metalwork.
I'm not planning on ever selling it so the value is of no consequence to me so for me it was the right decision.

Personally, for the money you can buy a real 3door for, I would just buy one complete, not worth the hassel nowadays.

i have just reshelled my s2 after a crash, and thats worth alot less than a 3-door.
If you have smashed a cosworth up and looking for a shell for the replacement then its worth doing, as you have with your RST.
If Pete is building from scratch then I dont think it is worth it, with the money you are going to paying out in all the parts, a 3 door for 5 or 6K is a better option IMO.
