Default question on starting prob on astra 1.7d?

my mates 1992 astra deisel non turbo.

its a bastard to start when cold?
its had brand new glow plugs
whats the next thing to look at?

Air leaks on the injector bleed tubes.

it starts if i spray easystart down the inlet
how can i check if there is power going to the glowplugs

why would that effect it and are they a lot to replace?

if there was no power to the glow plugs it would not start at all the fuel must be running back to the tank thats why it not start when left for a while

nope they only come on for a few seconds

they hold the vales open when cold, thus giving low compression, not very expensive to do
