Default twin port shroud on a turbo, what is it?

as im having it on my new turbo?

but dont know what it is

is it where there is another inlet ring around the inlet on the turbo?

I read it feeds a second air feed to the back of the blades to stop surg etc,

must be better i spose or they wouldnt offer it

well mine turned up last week and its sa,e as i thought on the turbo above



here is some info i got from the turbodynamics website on it,

cavaties/pockets machined into precise location of compressor cover inlet to guide incoming air to secondary blades of compressor wheel. helps to reduce turbocharger surge and improves total airflow to comprssor wheel.

A Ported Shroud compressor (see Fig. 2) is a feature that is incorporated into the compressor housing. It functions to move the surge line further to the left (see Fig. 3) by allowing some airflow to exit the wheel through the port to keep surge from occurring. This provides additional useable range and allows a larger compressor to be used for higher flow requirements without risking running the compressor into a dangerous surge condition. The presence of the ported shroud usually has a minor negative impact on compressor efficiency.
