di ironised water????
At school (in Glasgow) the techs told us that the de-ionised water was just tap water that they boiled and then let cool down. Good water up that way though, I wouldnt do it with the water where i am the now (midlands)

LOL @ Pete - puts Gareth's post into a new light
Gareth, new stuff's okay, it's just the old worn out stuff, and probably depends what chemicals have been used to regenerate it and what was in the untreated water. Recharging carbon filters is messier, but not as slippery as resin (of the ion exchange type, Pete)

My dad is/was (semi-retired now) one of the country's leading water treatment engineers - it's amazing how many processes require treated water of some description.

It reality on a car battery - jack shit
We (Chloride / Exide) sample the water of all new sites (Tesco / Asda) etc when doing a new install. Not all sites need deionisers as the stuff from the tap can be OK depending on area.
I think it only realy comes into play when warranty issues arise due to early batterey failiure i.e. less than three years. If you are allready topping a car battery up it must be well into that time period and probably not worth worrrying about long term effects
