Default PAS Pipe removal

I broke the fitting on the pipe that connects the PAS pump to the rack so i need to remove the rest of the pipe.

How do I remove the pipe from the rack. The car is a 2wd cosworth. There is a plate and an 10mm AF bolt securing it to the top of the rack. I have removed this but can see how to remove the pipe.

Any advice??

Also anyone got a pipe i can have?

Thanks Bruce

the plate holds both pipe's in, once you've undone the 10mm give the pipe a wiggle and it will come out, its got a rubber o ring to seal it so it might be a bit tough getting out

I thought that was the way to do it. Just never had the balls to give it a good wiggle.

Thanks mate.

Anyone have the said pipe??

I snaped the fitting from the pipe trying to take it out of the pump.

As for the other end of the pipe (going into the rack) Its not wanting to come out. The bolt and the plate are removed but its seized inplace. I think i will wait till I get a new pipe then try and get the old one out.

any other thoughts?

twsit it gently

Yeh i have tryed to twist and pull. But its not coming.

Do you mean buy a brand new rubber seal and fit it to another old pipe? Make sence to fit a new seal if thats the only real thing that makes it liquid tight.

if it's broke at one end you might as well break it at the other if it won't come out

worst case scenario is that you wil lhave to remove the rack, but as it's 2wd it's a doddle, pull the 2 bolts out that hold it in place, undo the 10mm bolt that holds the steering shaft to the column just by the bulkhead, undo the tca's and out it comes

with it on the bench you'll have much mroe time to be delicate with it and it might just need a bit of gentle persuasion with a punch to knock it round to break the seal a bit

if you are worried about the other pipe you can thread that through the engine bay while you remove it, not the end of the world if you have to replace it as well but make sure you've got replacements before you go that route

remember to make sure which pipe goes in which hole though
