This has come up many a time.

I can never remember the answer either

Im pretty sure it changed over later in production, get onto the place that supplied them and see if they have any variations listed!

Are they genuine ford ones you've bought?

And presumably the originals were ford?

Early engines come with an oil groove all the way round, later with only one oil groove.

The crankcase is different.

They are interchangeable though. If you have the wrong onees, when you press them into the crank case, they will be slightly offset.

I am in need of help here? It appeared I have a 86 crank but a 88 block. Can I use the full 360 degrees oil slot? I believe there is a difference in the 88 cranks ( they have 2 oil holes in the main journals ) therefore you can run with only one bearing groves and the other not as the big end bearings are still getting the same oil. What need to know Is if I can use the full 360 degree shells when I have a 88 block. The shells seem to have a slight step when you install the crank.

Just hoping someone can confirm that there is no difference in the actual blocks
