Default To LSD or not...

As my gearbox has gone, (well, 5th), i need a replacement.

I was going to MTX it, but at the moment, have no time for such an involved conversion, as i need the car on the road. PLan is to bang ina shand gearbox for a few months, and keep the boost to a bar.

Now i could get an S2 box, for about 150 quid, or i could bang in a non LSD one for 30 quid - which will have had an easier life. Question is, will i miss my LSD? How well is likely to be working after 150,000 miles anyway?! I know without the LSD you get a nicer turn in, but how will it effect straight line traction?

Rick.

escorts seem to have more problems with traction issues than a fiesta tho

fiestas seem to getaway with not having one for some reason

Personally, I'd just got for the cheaper option if its just for a few months. Just be a bit lighter with your right foot!" With the weather like it is at the moment, traction is never going to be great anyway lol.

What does it matter for driving to and from nowhere all day, not like it will ever see a track is it

Std diff will be absolutly knackered in a high milage box anyway - dont waste the money IMHO

Lol! I've never tried one without, although both my mates RST's have xr2i gearboxes in them and they seem fine!

I never knew much about LSD's but recently a mate of mine who works for Titan Motorsports has just designed an LSD for the new astra VXR's. Them LSD's are clever little buggers aint they, they work by slowly taking power away from a shaft by the use of beveled gears spring mounted over a central axis and gyroscopics in effect. He showed me an exploded view of one and they are neet as F!
