Default Rear drive shafts

I want to fit a 7'5" rear diff to my Esc Cos.. If you had a choice of 2wd or 4x4 rear driveshafts (I have both) is it better to use the 2wd's? as I heard they where stronger?

If so are the 2wd driveshafts a straight swap if you have the correct output flanges on the 7'5" diff?

if you are fitting a 7.5" 2wd diff you will need the 2wd shafts a 2wd rear beam and you will need to swap the drive shaft flanges in your esc cossie hubs

if the 7.5 diff is out of a 2wd cos then you have to use the 2wd shafts anyhow as the 4wd are too small

if the 7.5 is out of teh granada you have to use the 4wd shafts and 2wd are 2 big

so thers only one way you can run either im afraid

you can sling the whole 2wd rear end i nthere, but they run a 3.64:1 ratio rather than the 3.62:1 on the 4wd cars

shouldn't make a HUGE difference, but ask the experts on this one

Thanks guys I'm basically planning my rear end..
I want an Ahmed rear beam so have bought the 2wd beam and 4x4 trailing arms to be converted..... 2wd rear beam as I am planning for a 7'5" rear case with an Quaife ATB but I haven't bought the 7'5" diff to be rebuilt yet with the ATB so was wondering whether to buy a 2wd 7'5" or a Granada 7'5 with the 4x4 output flanges..

So in summary I can fit either 2wd shafts or 4x4 shafts depending on which rear diff I buy.. so what are the best ones?

the 2wd shafts are thicker , so id say they would be stronger

id go with teh 2wd diff and shaftfs as you have a 2wd beam as im sure the granada diff though being a 7.5 will fit in a 4wd beam aswell

so you may need to have the spacers for it to fit into the 2wd beam

but could be wrong

Is this not a little OTT for a 430bhp car? Seeing as the rear diff wasnt the weak link

A Zoo beam is a cheap copy of the Ahmed beam from what I'm told

The beam is being done for handling and grip.

The diff situ is because is for many reasons.. strength as I'd rather have overkill and fit and forget.. the ATB is a better diff interms of handling and grip.. I want 3.9 ratio and finding a 7'5" in that ratio with LSD is proving very hard and are worth as much as half the cost of the ATB when you can find one.. and I want it to match my front ATB diff.

Plus the only guy I know with a DPE 'gearbox that used it properly broke his rear diff on his Esc Cos

Dave that pic reminds me of Franco's pic from the ninties on email today

Is that what Ahmeds advised you to do then, or is this from your own assumptions?

go and find a dohc 2.0 sierra 4x4, they all use the 3.92:1 diff and you can pick the whole car up for a few quid

then he's best off getting a 2wd rear end and bolting it in and upgrading as he goes along

unles he wants to buy the bits seperatly and bolt them to his car, in cwich case he'll stil have the issue of the beam being a bit narrow for the diff

you can alter the 7inch beam where the diff mounts and make it wider to accept the 7.5 ich and 9 inch .
Give me 9 inches any day instead of this 12 inch fooker lol

Jay.. Bit of both mate only want to do these things once everything will be run by the master first Ahmeds opinion was its a bit over kill but do it if you can afford it. not had an RS on a recovery truck yet

How much a 9" diff ? I thought the Ford motorsport ones where £2-3K needs a different type of mount doesn't it? I've only ever seen 'grp-a' ones thou is there a lesser road version?
