What have people done to there box's on either escos's or saph 4x4's
Spec when the car is back together will be NMS low lag head, standard bottom end, t38 and 403's hopefully around 400bhp
I spoke to a few places today and was horried that its gonna cost around 5.5 k to have a decent spec box and front diff.
So what have pepole done to theres. Whats the priority and are there any cheaper alternatives.
Thanks Jamie

The new mullet box that reyland is selling looks to be a good bit of kit for the money, around 3K built i think.
Im running a straightcut box that i got second hand but standard diffs just now(hope to have around 400 bhp), im going to fit a diff plate and see how long it will last.

have just broken my 3rd box in 6 months...all used oxes though.
got 2 of them rebuilt to a slightly better spec, not sure what though.
i had to decide wether to spend £2-£3k on a decent box or bits on the escort mk.2 project.
the escort mk.2 won.

From what i've heard there aint really a cheap option when it comes to a decent 4x4 box, apart from a shot pean and i don't think that will do you any good when you are pushing 400 horsies through the car,
i'm desperate to sort out a decent box but just don't have 3 k spare to spend on the car at the moment,
my car has chewed 2 boxes from ford and i'm not an animal when driving the cossie

i went through through 4 boxes in 2 years including snapping the input shaft on a standard rebuilt box, also did 4th on a standard box and 3rd on an osborne bigtooth wich is in the shed and i realy need to get round to getting rebuilt
Best to spend 2/3k once if you can and save on the hassel and time off the road.

Marco Polo is the man - Mullet box is the box!
I have one in my car, together with a rear diff he rebuilt and upgraded, and a standard rebuilt front diff he did, and ALL are running fine at my 370 - 400bhp mark.

the mullet box comes all built up and not a box of cogs.
Marco is the man to ask.
Mullet box - Straight cut 1,2,3, and 5th.
4th is direct drive (cheers Porkie for reminding me last time!)
Also has big teeth. Very few original metal parts - most bigger / stronger / harder metal.
Pics of the teeth in my box:

Standard box:

Sounds nice - a little like a rally car, but not excessively loud.
PM Marco Polo for a price and proper spec, he'll sort you out.

As above, you are looking at quaiffe or fixit, or the new mullet boxes.
Mullet looks like the best value, quaiffe is the easiest to get bits for though probably as well catered for already.
Diff wise, if you keep the standard ones, you will need to take it steady in first, once you are into the higher gears the diffs are under less strain due to the torque reduction of the higher gears compared to first.

Chip when did you last get any gearbox bits from Quaife lol their service and supply for bits lately is truly shocking
If you cant put your hand in your wallet Tonks your reduced to driving it like my grandma would unfortunatly
Then I'll give a standard box 1 week in the dry and maybe 2-3 weeks if it stays wet.
Fix that and the diff will be next so dont think it stops there.
Fix the diff and it then mullers up the centre donuts or driveshafts usually.
There is a pattern it follows and unfortunatly I have seen it all to often following motorsport like I do.

so there is nothing short of spending £3k on a mullet box then?
and does the normal 4th gear mean that it will retain the normal input shaft?
i'm looking for upgrades to the V6 version of the mt75 and other than the front casing and the input shaft length the rest is the same, but i don't want to spend ANOTHER shed load of money on it

And piccy of the gearkit compared to a standard one:
Tony,
the standard boxes are not that bad,i managed to do Croft and Donnington this year with slicks on and still managed to drive home afterwards.
ok, they broke before the trackdays and used standard boxes re-fitted but they stood up to it.
i did Donnington on the 29th and 3rd gear broke again.
that was the first time its gone when driving a bit hard, normally it goes when driving it on a sunday.
