Default Question for Ford RS owners (majority of you cu...)

Do any of you get scared of your car?

I know it sounds stupid, but what I'm trying to say is, when you drive it out in the damp, or find a nice road somewhere.

I've got back from driving mine feeling very weird. I feel nervous/excited/anxious, I really don't know why.

It scared the fuck out of me, I upped the boost on it today and it is much more lively. Infact, to the point of where its made me post this!

I've got 3 points and can only get 3 more or i'll lose my license. I think thats something to do with it, but you just put your foot down to hear/feel the speed of the car its just too much! really, can't deal with it.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone ever gets in from driving their car and thinks 'holy fuck that thing is just too much to handle'

Kinda makes me wish I'd stuck to slower cars when I passed my test!

Hi mate

Yes, I know exactly what you are saying. I always think back to certain roads I drove on before my car went away to be mapped, down a dead straight road driving down the middle, nothing in front and can see miles ahead.

Flooring it, getting round to 130mph VERY quick, and it was to the point the front got twitchy and was lifting up under acceleration

Scared to get my car back in a way as it will be WELL the other side of 300bhp and in a fwd car it gives me sweaty palms thinking about it.

Quite a scary feeling actually, and I havent even got the car back yet!

Yes, i used to be scared of YUM with the 470bhp engine, but then i was used to my lil 1.25 Fiesta when i first started driving YUM. So i dont know what the new engine is going to feel like, i probs wont drive it on the roads.

In my Cossie there has been a couple of times where i have though i took that corner a bit too fast or dont think i should have gone as fast as i did down that road. I feel a bit like you say when i get out of the car.

Yep I know, Ive even been tying with the idea of selling it at some point and just get a nice stage 3 escos.

Its not the getting caught thing that scares me, it the fact of something going wrong

How the likes of Karl/Rod etc drive their 600+ cossies is crazy, something Im glad I cant afford!

If my cars cant get my heart going just with acceleration then they not fast enough, thats how i judge when i need more power.
Different cars handle it differently, its not just about your bhp.

And pretty much any car can get your heart going on corners and whatnot, thats just how you drive them.
Im pretty confident i can scare the shit outa most passengers if they come out for a bit of S1GP in my shitbox volvo...

It wasnt the speed that was causing it to twitch, it was the acceleration causing the front to lift up/go light and I couldnt hold it in a straight line.

Thats what scared me and it wasnt even windy!

And that was at 1bar/5000rpm limit, will be 2bar/no limit when it comes back

I've been over 130 on the clocks in my turbo, never felt the front raise up like that Stu? Strange mate, different aerodynamic properties I take it.

Stavros, didn't mean it that way mate, I could get a citroen AX to get my heart raising. I'm talking about the fact your actually going down the road with wheels spinning, limiters banging, turbo's chattering, exhausts popping. Don't get me wrong, on a track I'd absolutely love my car. But it scares the shit out of me on normal roads. I do like to drive the car, but fuck me it gets the wind up.

its cos your a bit inexperienced mate, and if you think of the end result then it will always scare you, just let fate be fate withou being daft and bringing it on to early, push it as far as you feel comfortable and that will grow with experience mate, just ensure your mota is tip top when you do go for it, ie tyres oil roads and conditions, go on a few track days to get used to it you will love it

Flip2k3 one of the best things you could do is go on a track day with it. Sounds weird i know but you will b able find the limits of the car and you which you just can't do on the road safely. Should be alot more confident with the car then.

I know where you are coming from though, as i went from a 80bhp 1.4 Clio to a 200bhp Rover Turbo. It is a big step and even bigger f you have just passed your test. Give it a couple of weeks and you will probably want more power again.

Like i said mate, in a dead straight line i know when (if its a car thats build for straight line stuff) i need more power, once it stops getting my heart going.

My cossie stripped out at 400bhp used to get me going, but after a bit i got used to it n needed more, and so on...

stu once you get use to it you will want more power trust me, mine scared me at first, but you get use to the acceration and speed.. at the daddy thrash i had no intention of doing a top speed run never taken the car over 120mph speedo speed before, on my first run i reached 147 was very twitchy at 130 but i thought bollocks and just went for it.. on my last run i ended up doing 154 now i am trying to find ways of going faster.. does take alot of bottle which was'nt there before the thrash. with me if the car does'nt frighten me it not fast enough.

Ben (flip2k3)- i know what ya sayin mate and must say after up'ing the bost on yours a little today my god did it feel a completely different car to the last time i drove it.

I think its a case of just remembering where u are. If u go up the highstreet and think yea put my foot down a little in 2nd, your at 60 before u even realise so u just have to think bout whats goin on. It all comes down to there being 'a time and a place'

wen i went from my 1.3 escort to my 1.8 si it scared me a little. My silver rs2k gave me a cold sweat wen i first got it. My grey escort turbo which was knocking on the door of 200bhp used to give me the shakes and sweaty hands holding the steering wheel. I cant remem how it feels to drive tho as its roughly a yr 2day that its been off the road being restored.

But i like the fact if im in a car that i know is leary and i know it scares me, it adds to the thrill of driving. I'd love to try and have a 400bhp esc cossie. I will do one day and cant wait

My old Fiesta ZT was like that for me.. because it was set up for straight line sprinting it felt fine on the strip doing 115mph terminals but on the road was a different story was very twitchy above 90mph..

you should try driving a shitbox sierra with a welded diff in the pissing rain - thats a pant stainer at the best of times, even when your not trying to drift the thing.

i done a drfit event on friday with a few others off here in it and it was ace fun, on the way home tho me and stav both nearly binned our cars going into a service station, slight right hander but fook me the cars went and not even trying

only scares you when you crash

but i feel elated when driving round some corner and the car breaks traction and without thinking about it i slide and correct it

cars always seem exciting when loud anyway which is why i used to unbolt my backbox leaving

engine-straight pipe -resonater to get rid of rasp - air lol

i miss it now.

ive had a few hairy moments in my car but none compares to when i use to go out on my bike with a few of my mates.it only took one of us to start to go stupid and the rest will follow, picture ghostrider though traffic and this was something like.i would get home off my bike and be uncontrolable shaking and not stop for a good few minutes.
we would always say that was stupid and never do that againbut on the next ride out it would start again.
now i'm happy to say i keep it to the track.

I've had the car over 6 months now

Just feels mad, all understeer, no traction, spinning in every gear!

Oh well.. I do like the power don't get me wrong, but Its just scary the speed you achieve with no effort.

Oh well, its being sold on Friday so i'll get my last enjoyment out of it at the PF meet.

Sound the absolute tits now though

I love driving mine, its a pussycat

Rain or shine, makes little odds. It just needs treated with respect. Of course if you drive it like an idiot, it will bite you very hard. So I dont.

its all about the car aswell, my sierra. used to rattle, exhast loud at the 120/130 mark , and made you fell a bit worried, but the audi at that speed, is smooth and silent, its only when you look at the speed and think shit should slow down abit, not even realising your driving in excess of 120!
