Im looking to do a few trackdays this year and need a crash helmet

do i need a Full Race or an Open Face? as i know they are strict on

helmets, and is it the same on all tracks regarding which type you have to

wear?

They aint strict on helmets anywhere I've ever been, that said.. with helmets its a standard thing- Buy the best you can afford.

I got a perfectly good helmet from a bike shop for Ł65 its light weight and does the job,

I am sure there will be loads of differences of opinions.

for i dont know what reason, but hope so dont wana spend alot

 

The reason the bike shop I got my hat from told me I couldn't use it was because bike hats dont need to be fire retardant to comply with regs.

As I say... at the tracks I have been to as a passenger I have never ever had anyone check my helmet or even seen anyone check a helmet.

I use an open face as i cannot get my 5 chins in anything else , Never had a problem on track
The gloves were because it was cold im a surgeon by day,

 

i bought a Ł50 takachi lid from a bike shop, they are shooi helmets under a different name and the equivelent of a Ł200 shoi

 

open face is best in my opinion!! dont think anyone has ever checked my lid anytime i been on track!

A good minimum standard BS6658-85 Type A helmet will be fine.
Either open or closed face is acceptable the choice is personal
These should be stickered on the back or labeled inside which should not be rmoved, painted over or covered up in any way.

As Jake said they are currently no strict checks in place, but as insurance companys are getting more and more nervous (not your insurance company - the tracks liability insurance) then if your buying now it makes sense to buy one that will be accepted when the rule complying will be more strictly enforced.

ive got an arai gp3k which i have had from 2000, snell standard so therefore fit to use in f1, alot better standard than type A and type B motorcycle helmets but it did cost Ł400 back then

its more of a competion helmet tho, not something someone would jsut go and buy... well worth it tho..

Snell 2000 is a higher spec and price yes which is why I posted the minimum thats being classed as acceptable

man i would never ever wear a helmet that cost 20quid espesh not a 2nd hand one

 

it was virtually brand new and has all the relevant stickers on it.

For the amount im gonna use it why the fuck would i pay 200 quid for something that i will wear only a few times a year if that.

As said before if its got the stickers then they have been tested to a fairly competent standard.

Buying a Ł60 helmet seems a little silly to me.

There is a reason why some helmets are Ł60 and some are Ł500.

You could pay Ł60 for the diva and Ł500 for comedy dan you can guess by the prices which one is a bigger helmet
