Not sure - not had it do that to me...

What write type are you trying? MAKE DATA CD should be the way you want to do it.

If it still won't work, you could always use MAKE DATA DVD and put it on a DVD......

that would be why then, avi files need to be burnt as data cds.

dont think you can get them to play on (most) dvd players without converting them back to DVD format iirc.

else just buy a £30 dvd player which supports avi files (and divx/xvid codecs built in etc) ie. the chili dvd player, ive yet to find a format it wont play

vcd's only play on the very cheap and few dvd players. alsdo have you tryed dvd shrink. it may help. we have a few programs we use.

better off to write as a dvd and if ya cant get it to work write it as a vcd (video cd)

DVD Shrink wont burn avi's. All DVD Shrink does is compress full dvd's (dvd9) to backup onto a 4.7gb (dvd5) dvd disk.

If the avi you have is on for more than 80mins then it wont fit onto a cdr as a vcd as I'm guessing yours is with it turning out at 900Mb. You will need to split the 900Mb vcd into 2 parts and burn each of them onto disks, to fit on one 80 min cdr you need to encode it to kvcd if it's more than 80mins long or you could just use Nero Vision Express to encode the avi to dvd format and burn it onto a dvd.

It's not all about quickness it's about quality. WinAVI maybe fast but it's shit. Nero's Vision Express turns out half decent avi to dvd's but make sure you tick the 2 pass encode

VCD's don't only play on cheap and few DVD players. Every DVD player I have had plays VCD's including my current (NOT cheap) Sony machine, so your info there is wrong...

DVDShrink won't be of any help here at all as the filetype is an AVI. DVDShrink is used for two things : 1) ripping a DVD to the PC (breaking encryption) and 2) shrinking the filesize of the DVD files to below 4.5gb so they can fit on a DVD-R. SO again, your info here is wrong.

And you can't write it a a DVD unless you use a programme to encode the friles from AVI to DVD.

Matt - what you need to find out first is if your DVD player supports DivX playback.

Burn the AVI you have to either CD or DVD as a DATA DISC using nero. Then just put the disc in the DVD player and see if it will read and play the AVI. Some do, some don't....

If that doesn't work, then you don't have DivX support on your player, and you will need to encode to a different format to get it to play.

VCD is shit - I used to encode video clips and the like the VCD using Nero but the quality is just shocking - nothing like the KVCD's you can get hold of on the net

You are best off converting to DVD format using an AVI to DVD converter or Nero Vision Express as Hock says. Get yourself a DVD-RW disc and you can burn stuff, watch it, then erase the disc to reuse it again next time - is what I do

Tis what I do saves having loads of dvd's/cdr's laying about that you'll probably never watch again
