Default How do i download faster?

i've got a problem with downloading, basically it takes forever

my connection is 3mb+ i reckon, but when downloading it only does about 18.5kb/sec......surely it should be quicker

are there some settings somewhere to change?

Get in touch with your ISP and get them to check it.

When we had this problem, we contacted our ISP, they in turn contacted BT and it was found that there was a fault on our line.

Is your connection optrimised?... the default XP is not optimised for DSL try optimising your net connection, It can be done by hand though registry tweaks or with an application such as TCP/IP optimiser. I would not suggest messing with the settings however unless you know what you are doing... you can also download 'patches' which do these changes for you

All depends on how much bandwith the servers are giving out too you when downloading from sites. Try Microsoft and download something from there and see what your speeds are like. You should be able to max out your download speed from Microsoft
