What makes you think they are skimmed Mahle's? Usually, when you skim Mahle's you lose the valve pockets and there is no need to have them added again, obviously.

So, can't be absolutely sure what they are.

Looks alot like skimmed Mahle's mate. The pockets doesn't need to be removed totaly. Mine 1mm skimmed Mahle's have just a little bit less left og the pocket than those on the pic. Maybe 0.75mm or 0.50mm skimmed those on the pic

Those pockets are massive, they are never mahles.

Mahles will have the Mahle logo cast up inside the piston.....get your torch and magnifying glass out.

the name should be under the crown of the piston,by the looks they have not been skimmed, you lose most of the valve pockets

this was my pistons on my old engine, and dont ask why the pistons are different, it must of had a bad engine build by someone, but i have built a new engine now.

this was a AE piston, skimmed to low comp.

these where mahle ones skimmed

the pistons prity much where level with the face when in TDC.

I was thinking they were AE Federal Moguls anyway, now ive seen those pictures id be willing to place money on it.

Lee, yes you should be able to tell if they are skimmed or not by how much they sit proud of the black face.

well if safechav is right, and there AE Federal Mogul pistons stay away, the one in my pic (the one with the pocket still in it) lasted 2k miles before cracking down the side. And speeking to Burton about them, they said there made of chocolate and very very weak.

Thats all they can really be, Mahles and AE's are the easiest pistons to acquire, although i have heard a few bad things about both the AE pistons and rings for the CVH now.

quote from there website

We now use only genuine manufacturer’s turbo low compression pistons, as we found that modified pistons were not always as efficient or strong enough.

Well the pistons in an RST are low compression compared to the pistons fitted to a N/A block. Thats probably what they mean!

Yes standard RS Turbo Mahles have very small pockets.

I bought these ones brand new, so this is DEFINATELY what a set of standard Mahles look like (yes i know they are dirty before anyone comments )

Those are 0.5mm oversize aswell. Thats only the diameter of the piston, which allows you to hone the bores to get ride of any scoring/lips/wear

Standard

It did have a power engineering sx428T cam but that bit the dust after quite a thrashing one day.

The head has had some porting and polishing work done along the lines somewhere, a scorpion and a K&N. Standard boost it does the limiter in 5th like that so it cant be bad
