Default 56k Series 2...stood 5yrs, is it worth salvaging?

This cars up for sale by a bloke i do alarms for, i've heard he was looking for £600 for it. Its been stood in his garage/SHED for 4-5 years now with a genuine 56k so this morning i called round for a look. On first impressions under the dust, webs, and muck it looked in fair condition considering the state of its storage. On close inspection heres what i found:-

The Good

56k owned from new.
Completely Standard
Roof is solid, no rust around the sunroof, drain holdes are fairly clean.
Tailgate, Bonnet & Doors are in vgc,
Inner wings seem solid as does around the fusebox. Battery tray looks ok but i did'nt get the battery out so it could well need replacing.
Interiors ok, drivers seats seen better days but over its not bad. Drivers door card could be better too.
The chassis rails are solid except for one part, floor pan seems really good except for one minor patch too.

The Bad

N/S/R Chassis rail as a hole the width of the rail and about 5 inch long just above the exhaust.
Needs the outer sills replacing, rotten as is the inner part of the sill at the rear of the car (inside the rear quater)
Both front wings feel rotten under the kit (hidden)
The scuttle panels going in the n/s corner right under the windscreen.
In the boot area where the chassis rails are welded theres a hole either side, not sure if this could be plated or not.
Brakes are seized so could be freed or need replacing.
Wants a full engine service and freeing off so i'd be buying it as a non runner.
Exhaust looks to have seen better days too.
Needs tires although i have some ready.

Soooo now i'm wandering if its worth buying, i already have a Series 1 resto going on so another projects not really ideal. I doubt the panels would be to expensive, i could do the stripping down and the mechanical work myself, servicng etc and store it at work. An old mate does bodywork so i could probably get that done at a fare price too so its a case of whats it really worth. i reckon 450 to 500 would get a deal. The question is is it really worth it or should i walk away? If i was to break it what mechanicl parts could i use on my Series 1 etc. Any help/advice would be really appreciated cheers guys.

Sorry about the pictures not the best but the garage is soooooo small i could'nt get any better ones.

looks like the interior has done more than 56k, ie lookin at seats and steering wheel, but yea go for it, it would break for alot more i imagine

Thats what i thought with the drivers seat but Andy who's selling it must be in his 60's now and no offence but he ain't the smallest bloke. The drivers seat is quite battered but the rest is quite tidy apart from the dust and damp smell. Think i might go for it, i'd prefer to repair the damage though than break it. Cheers guys, will keep you posted and should the deal go ahead i'll get some better pics.

Worth it imo mate, i'd have it anyway!

It's standard down to the exhaust which is rare these days, it's gonna need a strip and rebuild to do it properly so i'd be thinking concourse if you've got the time money and patience!

I've not been in contact with Andy since last Sunday. He's in no hurry to sell so i'm going to make an offer to buy and settle it within the next couple of weeks. I need to get rid of a P100 at work to make some space first... My priority at the moment is to get back on the road, since i stripped the series 1 down i've been on the old mountain bike lol! The series 1's a long term project, my mates got a R plate clio 1.2 just to get around in for £500 so thats in the pipeline. The series 2 should be in my works garage early next year in Jan if all goes to plan.

Default s2 re-birth...

hold your brake horse power there... i think its a good idea to buy to rag down santa pod,but if you want to put it back on the road *please, please check the wires behind your dash and your heater box for any little rodents in there... iv had problems such as mice nesting in cars that have been stored in old sheds and barns... (BUT WHAT THE HELL,BUY IT)

Agreed on checking everything, heater matrix may need replacing but it's too much much hassle But, considering what you can buy it for, and then getting it sorted out, you could sell it for 3 -3.5k easily
