hi, alot of you seem rich enough to own some nice motors, and also alot of you seem well mannered, therefore i thought id ask you of some advice ?

basically used to love computers, networking etc, im at uni, repeating my 1st year in computer systems and networks.

Just did 4 cisco ccna tests this morning, something that took the rest of my year over 4 weeks to do, i did in 29 minutes all 4 of them (take an hour each) and passed each one, so i know i have the potential there.

but

im failing all my coursework as i simply have no interest anymore!

and everyone i know has nice cars, with 9-5 jobs, only a certain few have been to uni and both of them are on the same pay and jobs as those who havent.

so im thinking of leaving and getting a job however im a bit stumped.

i have 7 gcses grade c.

a software btec worth 3 a levels.

both of these wont get me a job in anything other than computing, but down in the southwest both of these are only usefull for going to uni..... so this means i have to work at a supermarket on £8k a year ? not acceptable to me as a good wage.

i really dont know what to do with my life, i came accross with this arguement last yr yet couldnt find a job.

ive made no friends at uni at all, wether this is my fault or not i dont know, i havent done anything other than keep my self to myself like everyone else.

i think a big problem is commuting 25 miles a day whilst being broke as fuck and not having the time needed for a job, so its all work work work.

 

finish your degree - it will open a lot of doors when you've got it

 

but means 4 years of being broke and carless

ill be 25 when i finish uni thats my social life / partying / not caring over.

 

Degree. If you find it easy it's criminal not to finish it.
Also if you've done 1 year and are repeating it I assume you have taken out loans? It wouldn't be nice to pay back student debt for a degree you don't have...''whats that on your payslip'' ''student loans company'' ''wow, u have a degree'' ''nah, couldnt be bothered to do the coursework even though it was piss easy''...just a waste of an opportunity

 

its not that i cant be bothered its that i just dont find it interesting anymore

 

finish it you will regret it if you dont..and the rewards will be worth it

I've spent the day reading 2 law report cases about the secretary of state for trade and industry and the department of health and social security. It was about as fun as having my skin scraped with a file...but if I don't get through the tedious crap I can't ever get onto anything interesting...so I've pretended it's the most fun I've ever had and highlighted nearly every word and silently said ''yayyy fun'' to myself at the end of every page. You can kid yourself, really you can.

 

i think thats the way its gotta be tbh.

the way im looking at it is do it, try my best, if i fail im out, whereas if i just walk out ill kick myself.

maybe if i stop getting a student loan (just in case) or even complete it and then figure out what to do with my life ?


all my friends my age are buying 200sx's and i cant even afford a 1.1 micra!

Having a degree will never hold you back, not having one may well do in some areas. Gives you more options.

If you live away from uni and did last year that might be why you're having a few problems mixing..just try and talk to people
If you're repeating the first year they'll all still be desperate for friends anyway. I get at least one lost person mumbling to me a day even now.

 

go and finish it, I've done 2 years, but failed the 2nd on 2 exams by a couple of marks.

I'm just taking some time out and going back in January to finish those 2 exams and start my final year.

I was in the same boat as you didn't enjoy it, lived away from uni, didnt really mix with ppl at uni but still had loads of friends outside uni which helped.

 

One of the biggest regrets of my life was not completing Uni. Thought I knew it all and just wanted to make money. It was too late to do anything by the time I had realised my mistake. I had took on car loans and a mortgage and couldn't affford to go back. I've managed to claw my way back up to a level of earnings on a par with what I would be earning had I stuck uni for another few years, but it's been hard graft, really hard and there have been some times where it has been touch and go. I've had to sacrifice some things that I might not have had to if I had stuck it out. Believe me doing 4 hours of nightschool after a 12hour shift 3 nights a week is not my idea of fun.

Stick it out, the good times will come and stop looking at what other people have, in the long run you will benefit.

IMO change your course!!!!!! if you not finding it interesting in the first year then your going to be fooked come the rest of the years. And if you dont find it interesting, do you really want a job in that field?

Stick with Uni its my biggest regret not completing the course.

 

Definately finish the degree. I did and have so many doors opened. Hardly any IT jobs now are asking for anything less than a degree and those that are asking for experience, you have none anyway as you have been at uni so IMO, stick it out and enjoy those girls

 

Finnish the degree, there are plenty of people who manage to make it in life without one, but its still worth having behind you just in case IMHO

Reading this is like someone else typing out what im feeling!

Im in my third year, doing OK. internal exams etc.. im passing, however courseworks, im struggling with, just because i cant be bothered.

I do some work on the side to help with money etc.. so money isnt too bad, but my mates are all going out and buying nice motors, getting ready to move to their own places etc.. thats whats getting me down.

Im sick of travelling an hour each way to get to uni, and hate it, then come home, and put off doing uni work.

HOWEVER, look at it in the long run, a degree will help you get any job you go for, people recognise a degree in any subject, and its only going to be a good thing to have in a few years time.

Im gonna stick at it for this year, try my best and pass and then decide if i want to do honours/masters afterwards.

Definately worth sticking it out i rekon! Good luck.
