a lighter flywheel is easier to install as its not so heavy/doesn't require as much effort bolting in onto the crank

 

 

A lighter Flywheel requires less effort to turn it, making the engine rev slightly easier.

On the flip side, if you don't get it right, you can make it so the low intertia can actually make the rev's drop really quickly when you come off the throttle, taking you down below the peak power-band.

I agree with the above saying, if you are mearly considering changing it whilst you are doing a clutch change, then i would rather just have the standard one skimmed and fit a new clutch and crankshaft oil seal up with it

 

down here the only guys who do this are the honda v tec boys and the guys using the toyota 4age supercharged motor - this is because they rev to 9k.

chopping your flywheel to shit will simply allow your revs to pick up quicker and you will lose some torque - my t34 in 1st to 3rd regularly sees 7k plus , and i have broken valve springs because of over reving , doing something which will allow this to happen even quiker does not appeal to me - unfortunately taking out mk5 gti golfs on the localstrip that have been worked on sometimes makes me stupid and my foot heavier!!!

boosted cvh's do not like high rpm , so doing this makes no sense
