Default any bmw tech people

hi,just bought a 535i sport v reg.

on the journey home yesterday it cut out a couple of times when slowing down(car is an auto).
engine light came on so put code reader on it and it was coming up mass air sensor and o2 sensor.

ive just got a mass air sensor for it(new)same part no as the old one,but when fitted started spluttering and missing.plugged the old one in and it was fine.refitted the new one and was smooth on idle but splutters when you try to rev it.again fitted the old one and its fine and revs up ok.

is there something im not doing as in does the cars ecu have to read the new part or something daft like that or does it sound like a faulty new part.

help will be much appreciated
jay

best to go to a dealer Jay tbh....i know with Volvos if you plug anything new in your have to reload the data software for it onto the ECU....pop into a dealer slip a tech Ł20quid and get them to stick in on the diag.... could be worth a try or i could be miles out

You will need to delete that fault codes if you havent already done so..but we see this all the time in here a cranckase breather is burst drawing air when this happens this throws up a fault for the mass air flow sensor & when fitted it dosent change solve the prob..so check all the breather lines & the cranckcase vent valves...

i dont think its like that as 80% of the time the car runs fine, then it will cut out when slowing down.
the new item wont allow it to rev freely but the old one will.

Just a suggestion when they hoses & valves burst or leak it shoes a fault for the airflow & they are expensive then you fit it & it dosent solve the prob a hose at Ł15 does

The dealer cant do much, there equipment isnt the best and they dont know how to use it to its ability anyway.
You really need someone with autologic like the person i mentioned above.

fitted the replacement air flow sensor today and whilst there i cleaned all the shit from around the butterfly on the throttle-seems a bit happier now and idles slightly higher,so hopefully has cured the problem now.
