Default stalling

no air leaks iv sprayed carbcleaner all over,i might of found a problem-under the air box near the fuel meter unit there is a diaphram/disc thing! ITS STUCK OPEN and it might be over fueling? thus causing it to stall.
iv tryed to adjust and nothing happens possibly had it! ill take it off tomoz and fix the thing.... if that does not cure the problem what eles do you think it is....

well after adjusting, it might need a setup!

but it does scream Air leak to me too, did you spray your carb cleaner round the hose that comes off the servo?

pressing the brake will make it more prominent, try it sitting still.

idles ok?

You need to establish if the flap is sticking open because its tight, or because the disc is fouling the housing.

Ive seen them where people have had a play with them and this has happened. The disc should rise right up and fit nicely within the housing.

So when you say the flap is sticking. Is there ever a time when it doesnt rise at all?

if i rev it hard the the disc does go down like it should. i do have another
cabby but its xr3i and the disc on that one is closed with a little gap...
i think if i set it up the best i can i.e close off fuel and air and adjust all a turn at a time i might get some where and if that dont work ill scrap the bloody thing!!

Plastic Hose from plenum to servo in one piece (not sliced and joined with rubber hose)? Screwed into plenum securely? Rubber gromet surrounding pipe at servo perished?

Not being a smart arse it just sounds like typical dumpvalve syndrome.

You know, the one that people with dumpvalves on KE-Jetronic insist doesn't exist

safechav, glad your online what the hell is oranoco on with...
i have taken apart fuel mixture screw and found adjusting needle rusted and inhalf.. this was causing the disc thing to stick open i could be jumpin to conclusions but i might of created this problem by messing with everything... now im stuck, i have no mixture screw and i can't drive my car... do you know where i can get one without having to buy the hole meter unit. iv tried ford dealer and its hopeless... need to sort this prob out before i can say iv sorted the original fault out. the reason the needle has rusted is due to having water in fuel some how, i got a new filter to put on.* but i need a mixture srew.....*

Just quickly....Oranoco was making a valid point (very knowledgeable geezer). Its all too common to have a fault on a MFI RST that ends up being the DV. They don't really do do anything for an MFI car, its just a bit of a standing joke between us when DV's are mentioned

Now......you mixture screw

I have heard people saying they have drilled them out, exactly what this involves im not sure myself Indeed though this definatly isn't doing you any favours. Can you get a picture up, im still not completely sure exactly sure in what way its broken

with regards to drilling the screw out, thats not a problem, the problem is the needle!!! how long is it and what do i put in the screws place.. it looks a bit thin to re-tap...

Ah im sure you haven't theres been a lot worse said The joke will become clear in time to come, just keep your eyes out for what we call "the pro DV brigade"

Ah.....im getting confused now. The pin that pokes down from the metering head itself?? A picture really would be good, have you got a camera?

iv got a cam but car at work(4/5 miles away)your on the right track mate
ill try to make it easy for you to understand the best i can...
the screw that you adjust the fuel mix on the plenium has striped the threds so i removed from housing (held on by two torx screws) to find the adjusting needle has broken off and wedeged the plenium open. i have removed broken part before it went through my turbo.. now iv no idea how to make the adjuster adjusable again without geting one from the scrapyard of an xr3i if its the same but been told it might not be.
