Default SPA Digital Gauges

Anyone with Spa Digital gauges on here? Particularly the oil temp/oil pressure one? Just interested in how long your senders last or if you've never had to change them? A couple of years or longer?

Cheers

I sell SPA gauges, and have only had one water temp sensor that went wrong. SPA did have a problem with the back lights not lasting, but this have been resolved now , I do feel these are a top quality gauge, although they are a little expensive.

I've got exactly the same thing.
2 of the 3 gauges I have don't have working backlighting no more.

Tried to contact SPA direct but they still have to contact me back on where to sent them to have that fixed under warranty. Reported it within 1year of purchase but it's now over 1year so I hope that they do their job and fix it for free.

It will do this if you the voltage drop below a certain level, the gauge/sensor needs a certain amount of volts to work proplery of they will display silly figures.

Never had any problems with mine, had them for 5 years.

Speak to a guy called Tony Taylor at SPA, he's the guy I deal with when I place my orders, he was very good with the back light issues

I've mailed him before and the last time I mailed him was 25-08-04 requesting for an address to sent the gauges back and a possible tracking number so that it would be easier for them.

I haven't had a response yet.

I'm also having problems with my exhaust gas temperature as that's reading funny things sometimes. Whenever I go over a bump, the temp will drop and go up again and then drop again, etc....

I really like Defis and on a road car I would definately go with them. A very smart gauge indeed But the SPA's just look 'harder' and more business like. So I went for them in the track car. VERY pleased with them. Looks serious with all 5 of them glowing green

i admit I am no fan of them, remind me too much of a Quartz Casio watch display... I should imagine they look ok, in a slight retro look ... but all these reports of faults and faliure

the one bonus they have over Defi's is the dual gauge display and as lee says, look much more track car orientated than the others in the market

but lee.. if you had defi's and the defi scrolling monitor to accompany them.. that could work just as well

My speedo is always packing up

Fuel level gauge is just junk reading all over the place. Volt part of same gauge is all over the place.

Water Temp reads 20 Deg below the stack dash at 89 Deg..... I know Escorts run at 89 Deg.

Illumination modules have gone twice. They are shite!!

The problem is finding a good replacement for the fuel level gauge. The Spa one works if you turn the engine off and leave the ignition on.... no good on a busy motorway. Spa blame the person who fitted them ..... he blames SPA!!

They will have to stay for a while!

I have more or less the same problem with the fuel gauge.
If i use more electrics the reading changes, if I start engine, reading changes. I think i'm going to rip it all out and put all gauges on a seperate circuit and seperate earth. + redo the earth at the fuel tank.

+ the backligt right hand side of fuel gauge has gone dim

But still think they look the biz, lol.

Was only fuel gauge I could find to get to work with the ford fuel sender

Otherwise would have gone for much cheaper option

I have that one and not fitted it yet, BUT Sean Bicknell has and his works fine! blame the fitter!

I love the way Defis look. Sooo cool, but just too nice for a trackcar. The hard, business like look of the SPA suits me as does the dual display. I have the white ones as well which look much better in my opinon.

I ddin't realise there was a problem with the backlights on the SPA gauges. I've got the oil temp/oil press one and the backlight packed in about a year ago. I've had the gauge about 4 years though. The sensors only seem to last about 2 years before they go haywire though - new sensor always cures the problem.

I am looking at getting some new ones for the beast and was thinking of SPA gauges but maybe not now.. do like Defi's tho
