I have been thinking on what susspention set up i want on my cosworth for a while now. A good set of coilovers would probably be the best idea. But then again i would probably be keeping the standard ride height!!
Anyway, im sure this has probably be said before but hey!!
Is it safe to fit coilovers to the rear of a sierra?? If they are fitted all the forces are transfered from (standard) Shock and Spring to the Shock and Spring Combo of the coilover!! This means there are more forces acting on the shock mount on the rear beam. Does it need strengthened in some way??
Hope you understand what im getting at lol

Ive heard it mentioned before but tbh I dont know anyone thats done it....a chap I knew who had a track day saffy never had trouble with his coil overs stressing the towers and Ive never had any trouble either.
I've got coilovers on mine and I've not had any trouble, other than getting the springs at the right height so the tyres don't wear abnormally.
I've also had to fit a rear strut brace as both sides of the parcel shelf snapped and I had to weld them up, not sure if this was caused by the shocks though.

I was realy meaing the Mounts on the rear swinging arms rather than the mounting to the shell!! But again extra loads on the mounting point on the shell also.
Just that the Mount on the swinging arm hardly looks sturdy/robust!!

I think i might just weld/brace both bottom shock mount brackets anyway. It just looks abit weak to me. Might be aswell too.
Thanks Guys

I personally wouldn't be concerned about the bottom fixing.
And only concerned about the top mount if you ever fill the car with people and have stuff in the boot as well, that would put significant strain on the top mounts.
Thats why people especially with track/stripped out cars are never concerned about mounting of the coilovers as the cars don't have the massive weight loadings.

Tis a bit strange especially as thats supposed to be a strutual part of the car
