Default Oil for FRST?

My bro has just done an oil change on his using Castrol RS which I beleive is a 0-40w oil. I told him this oil was too thin and he'd be far better off with Mobil1 Motorsport which is a 15-50w oil. He was adamant that this was the oil recomended to him for his car by the shop guy.

What's the crack? Who's right? What can be expected if I'm right and the oil is too thin?

Use Castrol 10/60 rather 0/40 IF you can find some

He's done the change now though so it's not like it can be returned either

What damage is he likely to suffer as a result?

He done the chage yesterday but won't change it again as it cost him a fair few quid. Basically he will run with this oil until the next change or until somthing fails. HE doesn't take after me when it comes to doing things right the first time

5w/40 fully synthetic is the correct, manufacturer recommended oil for a standard engine.
