Depends on what engine you already had fitted?
A standard RS2000 crossmember will be fine and the cheapest option, or spend a few extra quid (not a lot more tho) and go for a world cup cross memeber... much better!
Car looks very nice by the way.

Hi there,
Nice motor, you really should upgrade to a worldcup Xmember, you have 3 options
Group4 WCXmember - Probably a bit much, it is reinforced and not really required even for a "hot" pinto road car!
WCXmember (Standard) I have one of these on my escort - they are good and have been around since the seventies!
WCXmember (For Heightened Cars) For cars that have been heightened at the front, Stops the bumpsteer. Xmember has slightly different geometery
Remember that if you go for a WCXmember you will also need the enginemounts to go with it, these come with a Sandard bushing

Hi Rob-85, The WCXM is great for race car's where the front wheels leave the tarmac regularly. Every time a race car hits the ground again the weight of the engine can force it down to knock on the X member. That's what a WCXM is good for. Ask yourself the question - are you really going to lift both front wheels off the road at the same time? if not you can save Ł100 by keeping your standard X-member and engine mounts. There's a lot of 'talk' when it comes to modifying Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts, but sometimes we all get carried away with the spec we'd like to brag about rather than what our cars actually need.
I dont know if you've thought about the gear box X-member yet? you will need to re-locate it about 3 inches further back for your 5-speed. Ive just done this job on my RS2000 so ask me if you need more info on this job.

Have to agree with BeeRs there...
The WCXM was designed to stop failures after the car jumps 10 foot in the air on rough events like the Safari,Argentina and of course the World Cup.
To put it in perspective , Smiffy's 170mph Mk1 uses a standard x-member
You have a x-member, so spend the money on an RS 2000 sump and pick up pipe and Alloy bellhousing
