Cossie head onto pinto block
I have been told that my old cylinder head will fit straight onto my pinto block that I have in the escort. Does anyone know if this is the case? Or is there alterations needed
I was planning to use the cossie gasket bolts etc, the head is being skimmed today and I am going o look out for a set of 50 dcoe's, dunno what sort of performance I will get from a N/A cossie engine, but its got to be more than the pinto
No at the moment just got a spare cossie head that was too far gone to go back on the turbo, and is now being skimmed for NA, initially I am more interested in whether it is a straight forward job to fit it onto the block cams etc are easy

Physically head goes straight on but needs a fair bit of work for N/A.
Ports are way to small to start with, plus cams etc

Phil,
Just make sure the valves don't hit the pistons and you are away

well not quite
just some of the things that you need to change are
aux drive pulley
cambelt drive pulley (crank end)
exhaust manifold
dizzy cap
camshafts
theres a shit load more but its been along time since i built nasp cossy engines !!
it can be done with very good results
good luck , id like to see the power results ona std cos head on a pinto with juts a cam change maybe just to see if its cost effective over a dooing pinto
I dont know, I have the head spare so I will bolt it on and do a comp test, anyone know how much power I should expect, I am planning to run it on twin 50's I am hoping it will be around the 16v Vauxhall engine coz that was going to be my other choice and they run 156 bhp standard and about 180 ish with carbs
You could get the same with a good pinto head and cam mind.
Aspirated cossie done properly is fuckin rapid, but the head is the cheap bit!
Forged pistons and cossie rods for over 7500 rpm, otherwise you need to have valve cut outs in your pistons in case of any bounce or if using wilder cams - non turbo cams definitely recommended...
There's a book on it, got mine from burton power, guy seems to know his stuff - it's a shitload better than any XE lump anyways, and is mucho easier to fit!

I will be more than happy if I can get 170 bhp or 180, I wonder how it will compare to the cossie bearing in mind it should only weigh about 800kg, 180 bhp should work out at approx 225 per tonne, any one know how much a 2wd saff weighs?
So I would think up to 60/70 mph the escort will be as fast if not faster that the cossie, as it geared quite low. Should be entertaining just need to get it all done for the winter when the snow and ice is about
