Default starting up a new business, need help with names!

right im in the process of starting up a business, ive got to go back to the bank with a name. ill be doing mainly floor and wall tiling, but wood and laminate flooring aswell. so far the best name ive got is southwest wall and flooring. sounds prefessional, doesnt generalise to much on any aspect of what ill be doing, so ideal really, but, i want to aim at getting work in stoke-on-trent as i want to try and move back up there at some point in the next couple of years, so anything with southwest in the name isnt really suitable!

ive racked my brains of something i could call it thought doesnt sound to tacky and gives a fairly professional vibe. i did consider something with my initials SM but was shot down in flames by people on another forum.

need some more ideas folks, sensible ones only though please ive got plenty of pisstake ones to choose from already

Has to be something people can remember, not sure of McGlade is easy to remember but if someone said McGlade to you would you remember McGlade or McLade? Also good if you can buy the web address to go with it.

General advice is don't name it after yourself as you've tied the companies brand equity directly to you so without you the business is worth little.

Also think about whether or not you wish to stay in the same market segment, do intend to specialise in laminate floors and tiling or would you like to expand?

Personally I'd be tempted with something like "Potteries Interiors" or "Stoke Foor & Walls" then come up with a strap line which focuses on what you actually want to sell so i.e. "Potteries Interiors - Specialists in flooring and tiling - www.potteriesinteriors.co.uk"

What about ''Professional Tiling & Flooring''....?

Or ''Professional Ceramics & Flooring'' ...?

Or ''Professional Ceramics & Laminates''

or a variation on any of the above...... As you can see,the 'Tag' word is,'Professional'.....says a lot,in the average punters mind.

someone else sugested something along the lines of "National Tiles and Flooring", gives off the professional and large business image i was after, but doesnt tie me down to the north or south, so id be able to trade under the same name wherever i was working.

sounds like a winner to me, what do you all think?

Walls & Floors

Wallfloorers

Erm....LOL

It took me ages to think of mine also - make sure you check that there isnt another company out there with the name already registered if you are thinking of going Ltd - also for your email addresses/webpage etc.

Good luck!!

How about "Projectiles"?

I like it, works if you say it slow or fast.

Dunno, but the other day i saw a builders van and it had a slogan wrote on it

'' get the kettle on, were here''

Great advert

What about

Distinctive floors Or
Floor expressions etc

Personally i think firms with those kind of names 'look' right pretentious pricks..

Go for something simple...

banks only want a name so they can charge you a fortune for business use, i have my own tiling business and i trade under my name so when folk wright cheques i just put them into one of my accounts. heres a few from around my area

Tiling for you
ceramstyle
tilecraft
tileright

i find a lot of people just trade under their names.
also these guys have been on courses that cost Ł3k to tile in a week. load of sweaty bollox, they are shite, there work is shocking!!!!

i personally dont advertise for work as people soon get to know who is the best at what they do,and word of mouth and speaks more than any advertising.

if you ever need any advice on anything just give me a bell

yeah im planning to do a 4 week course in warington, ive done a bit of tiling before and got on really well with it but id like to be shown all asspects of it just to give me the confidence more than anything. i plan on advertising to begin with, then hopefully like you say, word of mouth will do the rest for me when im off the ground!

gonna do some searching and make sure i cant find another "national tile and flooring services" and i think im gonna go for that, unless i change my mind between now and my appointment with the bank

trust me mate these courses are a waste of time and money, the only way to learn is get out in the real world and just try your hardest, all the walls and floors are straight in these training enviroments, give me a grand and you can come with me for a month. better than going on any course. ive got plenty on, been serious come and stop at mine for a few weeks and get some hands on experience.(only joiking about the 1k pmsl)

dont like that name, sounds to commercialised. the thing ive learned is dont take to much on at one time, it takes years to work up a good reputation and a minute to lose it.
