what would be the right oil to put in a rwd 1989 gear box???

i use atf(auto transmission fluid) as the oil in the manual made my box whine a little has been in for about 12 months with no noises/problems

atf is a lot thinner thought this would be bad

2wd gear box oil finis code is : 5 014 519 (1 litre)

SQM2C 9010-A (Ford spec) Dexron BA
(same for power steering)

I did not know they used the same in the power steering as in the gearbox. Im just going to change my PAS fluid, is this the correct fluid?? ^^^

sorry for the confusion its actually called hydraulic fluid used in auto boxes and pas systems red in colour cant remember finis number. a friend who's a service tech for tvr also recommends using this in t5 boxes

The T5 was originally run on ATF fluid, well a modified version of.

It is not uncommon for manual gearboxes to use an ATF. If you want a really good one have a look at the Amsoil Synthetic ATF.
