COSWORTH COILPACK PROBLEM PLEASE HELP
JUST FITTED A COILPACK CONVERSION TO MY 3DR.
EVERYTHING IS FINE EXCEPT THE REV COUNTER.
TOOK MY CLOCKS TO MOTOR SPORT DEVELOPMENTS ON SAT.TO HAVE A MOD DONE TO MY CLOCKS AND ALSO TO HAVE THE DRIVER BOARD FITTED TO MY ECU.FITTED THEM YESTERDAY AND REV COUNTER COMES ALIVE WHEN STARTED AND SITS AT 800 R.P.M. BUT IF YOU REV THE CAR IT JUST STAYS THERE[800 R.P.M.
TOOK MY CLOCKS AND REV COUNTER APART BUT COULD NOT SEE ANY MOD [BRIDGING WIRE AT ALL.
PLEASE COULD ANYONE WHO HAS DONE THIS CONVERSION PLEASE POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AS I AM GUTTED.CHEERS MARK

DISCONECTED OLD COIL FROM CAR[COIL LEAD,POSITIVE CONNECTION,NEGATIVE CONNECTION ALSO ONE OF THE WIRES HAD A SMALL BOX THAT WAS ATTACHED TO THE COIL BRACKET REMOVED THIS AS IT CONNECTED TO ONE OF THE LEADS WITH A ORIGINAL CONNECTOR.TAPED UP WHAT WAS LEFT 2 LEADS THAT WENT TO POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE ON COIL.THERE IS A SMALL GREEN WIRE WITH AN ORIGINAL BULLET CONNECTOR JOINING THEM TOGETHER THIS LOOKS STANDARD,IF I UNPLUG THIS THEN THE TACH DIES THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN CONNECTED.PLEASE HELP.CHEERS MARK 0191 5840361

yes i have the correct coilpack loom[brand new] it does have 2x wires that go into the ecu pin 26 and pin 21 .i thought it was a plug and play after you had the driver fitted by motorsport developments and also the mod to the rev counter.took my clocks to bits.cut the link wire that they had installed and it made the rev counter go off so i soldered it back on where it should be.
How about trying a different set of clocks - even if from a boggo sierra (without the wiring mod and then with) ?
Other than that, I'd say you'll have to get back on to MSD, even if it's just to confirm that the output to the rev counter from the board fitted to your ECU was tested after it was fitted.

JUST BOUGHT ANOTHER SET OF CLOCKS FOR MY 3DR.TO TRY AND RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM.FITTED THE CLOCKS AND THE REV COUNTER SEEMED FINE BUT ONLY SEEMED TO BE READING HALF THE REVS OF THE ENGINE SPEED. COPIED THE MOD THAT MOTORSPORT DEVELOPMENTS DID TO MY ORIGINAL CLOCKS AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED [REV COUNTER WAS BOUNCING FROM 3000-7000 RPM]SO I SHUT IT OFF INSTANTLY.TOOK OFF THE LINK WIRE AND REFITTED.EVERYTHING WORKS GREAT BUT THE REV COUNTER SEEMS TO BE SHOWING HALF THE REVS THAT IT SHOULD BE JUST AS IT WAS BEFORE.
MY ORIGINAL CLOCKS ONLY STAY AT 800 RPM ALL OF THE TIME EVEN WHEN REVING THEY WOULD ONLY GO TO ZERO WHEN I SWITCH OFF THE ENGINE.

Hi,
I dont believe we didnt have any answers for you at all. I suggested you send the ecu back for us to check over if you were confident the loom you used is working correctly. Also, your rev counter is NOT dead after being worked on by motorsport developments as you suggested at all. Reading half is EXACTLY what you would expect to happen when you convert to wasted spark, this has NOTHING to do with the clocks themselves, its to do with the signal output being halved which is fixed by pin 21 on teh loom being connected to our tach driver. Well, at least it is on the loom that WE sell.
The loom was NOT purchased from us so its impossible for me to help you with the wiring aspect although i DID tell you how to check the drive circuit independanly of your loom as i recall advising you to run a fresh and independant wire from ecu pin 21 to the green wire on the back of the tach unit and that would drive the tach properly. Have you done this? What was the result?
I also told you that if you bring me the car i will find and rectify the fault?

MY STANDARD CLOCKS WORKED PERFECTLY BEFORE I BROUGHT THEM IN FOR MODIFICATION.
FITTED THE CLOCKS AND THE REV COUNTER JUMPED FROM 3000-7000 AS THE CAR IDLED I LET THE CAR IDLE FOR ABOUT 10 MINS..
