Turbo

i had my car running with the boost hose off and the compressor wheel was spinning on idle, this how they normally work? or are they surpose to be still untill they cut in?

nomal to turn at idle , if it does not you have one of two probelms(or both)
knackered turbo bushes
knackered oil pump not supplying enough oil to allow the sahft to flaot as per its design
