lsd box
looking for some help!
ive recently had my box changed and when the garage changed it they told me my clutch was 80% worn. i couldnt afford to get the clutch fixed as the 1 in it has only coverd 6000 miles. its an ap4 paddle. now when im driving the car it is harder to get into gear and crunches bad going into reverse.
help.

Firstly an AP paddle will look 80% worn from new, so if the garage fitting the box were only used to seeing/fitting standard stuff they would not be any wiser and would think its worn. Dont worry.
The gear crunching in reverse is either a misalignment of the linkage, or a knackered box. If it struggles when your driving forward, again it could be linkage /box problems or possibly the engine or gearbox mountings.
Go back to them and ask them to re align it, as this is the cheapest option first, tell them your not happy and if the re alignment does not solve it then can they advise you on what the problem is.
They will possibly try to blame it on the clutch so be aware, but a worn clutch will not make the box struggle for gears as you suggest.

thats exactly what i thought and they did try to blame the clutch but as the pads on the clutch are a lot thiner on the ap i can agree with what u say.
they only prob was the garage said they couldnt warranty the box because the car is running 244bhp. this maybe a prob i will need to fix myself. when the car wont go into gear i was told to put it in a high gear then quickly change it and it goes straight in.
this is just 2 much hassle.

This garage clearly don't know about the cars or the parts so it might be in your intrest to find a garage that knows what's what

Either mark its position when you take it off, or I either set mine in either neutral or reverse, and use 2 people 1 inside, and 1 under the car. It can then sometimes take me about 4 goes until I am happy with it.
So you just have to set it and test? My gears go in perfectly, but when changing gears on high revs it crunches slightly on upshift on 3. and 4. Also reverse crunches often, if my reverse is ok, the linkage posistion for 3. and 4. would be ok too? Easier to test crunhing in reverse than driving hard to provoke crunching in 3. and 4.
Try putting the gear in reverse. Then look from the left side to the selector under of the car. On the bottom of the cover it has an opening inside which you see the end of the gear stick (if in reverse). There is a small hole across the end of the gearstick. This hole should be in the center of the opening. Usuing a suitable tool is can also be locked to this position. Then one can slacken and reticken the selector arm and it should be spot on.
