Its not as bad as it reads, they announced months ago that they were shedding 25-30k jobs in North America. to facilitate this loss they are offering packages to all unionized staff (75k people) nobody has to take the offer!! though they are expecting 20k to take up the VR packages

it already affected us, they cut 10% of staff at christmas to help save the states, they are also bleeding us dry to keep them going too

but that just helped us loose the dead weight staff at my branch, it was more cutting the fat rather than loosing staff

Its mostly pick-up and suv sales slumps that have caused the problems. as the American consumer has begun to wake up to the fact that sub 10 to the gallon aint smart! For the first time in an age ford EU is proping the rest of the company up

Wayne

I was only kidding I do understand there is a lot more to running a world class company that just one type of model

I just like to get if off my chest that it pisses me off they dont make an RS anymore and expect us to be happy with the ST,

Altho the ST"s may be a good car , they arnt an Rs and never will replace one

Will it efefct the UK?

YES MASSIVLY

THe US has been supporting Europe for the last 7 years - with out that the whole Europe opperation would be dead.

This is serious bad news.

Over 10 years ago it was predicted one of the Big 3 would go pop. Sadly it looks like its going ot be ford

I believe GM are to follow suit soon with roughly the same quantity of redundancies (30k).

its already affected ford though mate, but its prob gonna get alot worse

we are stuggling to meet targets these days and our GP is down 10% we are now some days scratching for sales and the drivers are working alot harder for the same profit total

the industry is having it hard

ford are fortunate that they can car boot sale some of there other brands to keep the share holders happy, but thats only gonna be for so long

Most profitable is Toyota in fact they are the most profitable company in history, they are not however the biggest car maker in the world and if you think about it that makes them even better in terms of profit, unfortunately the Americans and europe have a lot to learn about making cars from the japs in terms of efficiency and cost and right first time quality

this is called recession!!!
its coming and its going to hurt anyone in debt when it really takes hold.

anyone notice that in the uk second hand car sales total figures have for the first time gone ahead of new car sales,
the new car sales are the first to be hit by the slowing down of the economy, how many 56 plate cars have you seen this month?not many.
