Default think my engine just went bang!!

well just went out to pick 2 mates up from football, started driving up the road, gave it some in 2nd,then went to 3rd,put my foot down, and bang!a big flame out the exhaust!so started to slow down to plull down a side road, started to gave it a little gas then the second bang!and an even bigger flame!!!

a lad saw it who was on his bike and said the second flame was like 4 foot long lol scared the shit of him!

anyway,so by this time the car had died on my and nothing was there,so got battary pack out,it tried to turn over, but just couldnt,so we bump started it,and it ran for about 30 seconds then died again.

bit gutted actually,as today was the 1st time its ran properly since i had it,

what do people think it could be? its going into work tomorrow, but would be good if anyone knew where we should start looking?

think its time to build me an engine

cheers

What makes you think it's the engine?

Sounds like an electrical fault to me...

Flames can be down to a fucked dizzy giving random sparks. A new engine won't cure that!

I'd try and get it running before you strip the engine down to be honest.

It might not just be the dizzy! I was giving that as an example!

Get the car running before you pull it apart even if you're planning to do the engine anyway otherwise when you put it all back together, you will still have a car that won't start but with a wallet a few Ł lighter!!

As Daz said, its usually only the brushes and/or diode packs that break down in alternators.

Yours could be fixed for as little as Ł20

Check that little blue wire going to the alternator

If the battery light is on 99.9% of the time the battery isn't being charged.... so don't get relying on the car until you've sorted it.
