Default EVO 8 260 advice

I know a few peeps on here have the 260 and I'm seriously considering one as the next car but what is the performance like once rolling compared to modern hot hatches these days and are what are the main differences to say the fq300 apart from the 40bhp and 6 speed box?

Any help or advice appreciated really just reading the MLR guide atm

Cheers

Matt

theres hardly any diffence,
iirc, the turbo housing is slightly smaller, they mayhave slightly smaller injectors,
you can mod a 8 260 to the 400 bhp as easy as you can a fq 300.

in reality,. if your buying one to moddify, you can buy and mod a 260 to 400 bhp for cheaper than you can buy a fq300,
alot of them also have the bigger rear spoiler fitted form the factory.

if i was going to buy a evo 8. id buy 260, they usually seam to be less abused

260 has loads of differences. ie. spoiler, seats, lights, wheels, suspension, tyres, engine is only slight (exhaust mainly causes the power loss)...

Just buy a 300 or 320 and i guarantee you'll not regret it. If you buy a 260 you'll always want the "real evo".

Fantastic cars though!

Don't let the (mainly) badge engineering put you off. The std 260 is still a very good car. For approx Ł700 you can easily see 320bhp. Rear spoiler can easily be fixed if it bothers you. See if you can drive the different models if you can. IIRC, they only changed the turbine housing on the 340, and as said, the exhaust on the 260 is deliberately restrictive.

Good info, whats parts for Ł700 for the increase? Is that exhaust and.... ?

Like the rear spoiler not a problem, like the alloys and the interior looks shit on all of them so also not a problem

Thanks for all the comments

A mate sorted the exhaust himself (de-cat & downpipe), air filter and then had an Ecutek remap @ WRC Technologies and got 323BHP (Dyno Dynamics RR). He regularly 'kicks the arse out of it' to use his own phrase , and even gets improved economy when on a run & being sensible. They said he could have gained a little more if changing the full exhaust, but he didn't want it to be too noisy so he's happy for now.

His also has the larger rear spoiler upgrade as a gesture of good will from his dealer, as he had to reject his previous car, and they couldn't find him a replacement the same colour.

I think it's a great car, and could easily have been tempted to the dark side if I hadn't uprated my EsCos

Why don't you get an VIII GSR which is the JDM version before being changed to the FQ300 in this country? It has all the goodies that the FQ300 does and standard is approx 276-280bhp.

Except that it doesn't list the 260 so doesn't show the differences. I think the main differences are, 5 speed box, shitty spoiler, climate control and different seats. A lot of people refer to the 260 as an Evo VII with an VIII body.
