Any carbon fibre experts ? Got a prob...
Morning folks
Just got a quick question regarding Carbon Fibre if anyone is "in the know" about it please...
R34 GTR bonnet, made of carbon fibre, and the vent in it seems to be "peeling"
I think its just the lacquer, but not in the know about this, was wondering, can you rub this stuff down and re-lacquer it ? Dont want to get someone to do it if its gonna fook it up even worse.....so does anyone use carbon fibre at all and have any ideas / suggestions ? Will post a pic up later if i can.
The vent doesnt detach from the bonnet which is a bummer too....or it would be easier just to buy another vent.
Cheers in advance
Michael

You best ask the manufacturer who made it what they used as a final coat (if its got one) as i'd use a similar product to re-coat it after its been rubbed down. I'm guessing its either gelcoat, paint laquer or varnish.
All composite parts exposed to sunlight should be protected from UV rays, it sounds like yours has no protection or if its not been long on the car then it'll probably be heat related instead.
Is the vent near the turbo? The hot air exiting through the duct may be hot enough to effect the surface coat, the normal resin systems are only rated to 80 degreesC.

The vent is the same as any other R34 GTR Bonnet, but i have only ever seen this one go like this....strange.
Vent is "relatively" near the turbos, but its a venturi duct, taking in...so all cool air going over it....and its not over a particularly hot spot.
Just trying to find out if its repairable....but gel coat would be a bit harder eh
Very strange.

Try Marcus at creative carbon. He may be able to help. don;t know any contact details off hand though. Sorry
Have you tried Middlehursts? or the GTR board? they made be a reason and a known fix.
