Default distance learning (plumbing) - any good?

Anyone had experience with it?

I want to do soemthing different career wise and I've always wanted to do plumbing. The only problem I've got is the shifts I do in my current job (4 on 4 off days/nights) don't make it easy to do courses at college...

I've found a few places that do distance learning with plumbing (all the theory) and I reckon I'd be able to put some of that in practice by tagging along with some of my mates over here that already do it...

any plumbers think this is a good/bad idea?

I won't be able to find another secure job with the same pay as my current one so it pretty much rules out ditching my job to be able to go to college..

my mate is doing this part time at college and he runs a corner shop 7 days a week

It has cost him in excess of 3k but he get his own tutor, etc and has to go into college to do his practicals.

He is nearly done now so will be making some good money
