Default Escort RST rear disc brake convertion, how to fit?

Hi.

Just got my rear caliper brackets from Burtonpower. But Im unsure how to fit them. They are not threaded, so I cant fasten them with bolts from the backside of the hub. And Im a bit worried about drilling out my hub if I was to make threads in the brackets. Also, the bracket is designed so that the caliper is placed at 9 or 3 o'clock. Wich way is the best?

I have a RS2000 handbrake wire, but does'nt it become a long strech if the caliper is mounted 9 o'clock? And if I mount the caliper at 3 o'clock, the cable gets a very tight turn to mount properly in the caliper?

What kind of bolts and nuts do I need to make the whole convertion from scratch. All I have is original bolts, complete 2wd cossie rear disc brakes, RS2000 mk5 handbrake wire and the brackets from burtonpower.

Thanks guys.

Alright mate.

All this talk of drilling hubs etc, everyone seems to do it, why........i am not sure though

Heres mine, i bought them second hand so i wasn't so in the dark about it all. As you can see mine are countersunk, (which they have to be to clear the hubs)

The handbrake cable you have is right, i too, noticed on the passenger side ONLY it was a little tight, but just ok. You will need to change the metal kidney plate on the cable that joins to the small cable, the mk5 one is too wide and will foul the floor pans

Have you got a picture of the brackets you have? The best mounting places for them are (ideally) 12 o'clock, or next best is 9 o'clock, the others all make roouting the handbrake cable a nightmare

Note the cable is a bit tight

i had the mad for it plates. i just ground the bolt heads down a bit where they fouled the hubs. get the bleed nipple as the highest point of the caliper when bleeding them or they'll always have air in them and not work 100%

use the mk5 rs2k handbrake cable, but just the rear bit, just take the old rear cable off and swap it with the new one hooking it up to your existing mk4 short cable and halfmoon as mentioned above

3'oclock or 9 o'clock depends on which side of the car you're on, mount them at the rear of the car and everything works fine as long as you have the correct caliper for each side.

sexr3i the only thing i would say, is those brackets look incredibly thin Mine take up the whole clearance between the hubs and the carriers.

Where does your handbrake cable route for this position?

Bet that was a tight stretch

Cheers guys. Thanks a lot for pics, that helped a lot. I was considering grinding of the top of the bolts that are touching the hub, fasten the bolts tightly and marking them where to grind off. My brackets are also thin, like sexr3i have. Aprox. 5-6mm. Do you use washers to space out the calipers or caliper gliders sexr3i?

Washers are the only way to space them out, you're going to need a few though being as your brackets are so thin, mine only needed one thick, and one thin washer on each bolt.

mine came with spacers. the plates aren't as thin as they look in that pic, they are probably almost the same thickness as yours in real life, (i've tested and they are strong as fcuk) just use as many washers as you need to get the caliper to sit central over the disk, my spacers are about 4mm thick. so a couple of thick washers should do it.

my handbrake cable, I'll get a pic tmro, not a tight fit at all mate, i did it underneath, duno if there are different fitments on the calipers or if the different angles we've fitted them at make a huge difference but mine has a nice loop same as the original one did.
