Got a major problem with my brakes they seem to work when they want to sometimes they will lock up with no breaking at all and other times it seems as though i'm not braking. Its still got ABS with std rear drums and grooved discs and uprated pads on the from i'm using dot 5.1 fluid and have bled the breaks twice in the last two weeks
Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Is it the rear wheels that lock up?

 

no only seems to be front and lock up easier if i'm cornering if that helps

 

are the flexi pies on the fronts correctly mounted in the cupped holder and rubber gromet as they might be getting caught up when cornering?

 

Sounds possibly servo related to me

 

rubber hoses look fine servo is corroded underneath where the master cylinder mounts onto it could this be my problem also is there a way of checking the rear load compensators to see if there working okay?

 

Jack the car up and put it on stands.

Then jack the arm up and see if the mechanism is moving inside.

 

Just got jack and stands out ready to try the above and would believe it the heavens open will try as soon as it stops cheers all for your help. got new(ish) servo on the way

 

try the rear compensator valve[load sensors] see if there foooked

 

Will try when rain finally stops. if they are fooked can i get new ones or is there a better alternative???

 

you can get new ones but there about £90 each

 

hAVE CHECKED BOTH REAR LOAD COMPENSATORS AND BOTH APPEAR TO BE WORKING. TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL MOT STATION TO HAVE A BREAK TEST DONE AND FOUND THE FOLLOWING

N/S FRONT 200
O/S FRONT 0

N/S REAR 0
O/S REAR 120

N/S HANDBRAKE 150
O/S HANDBRAKE 160

HAVN'T A CLUE WHAT THIS MEANS AND THE MECHANIS DIDN'T REALLY EXPLAIN IT TO ME

I PRESUME IT MEANS THAT I HAVE NO BRAKING EFFORT ON THE CIRCUIT THAT GOES TO THE O/S FRONT AND N/S REAR

ANYONE ANY IDEAS

 

Seals gone on one of the cylinders inside the master cylinder, or you're very unfortunate and both brakes on that particular line have seized (not a chance IMO)

 

are repiar kits still availible or best to buy new

 

I'm not sure if seal kits are still available? To be honest a failed Master Cylinder on a MK4 is a rare occurence.

Check out both of the respective brakes first just incase you they have both seized, its slim chances but worth a check first
