Default blue smoke when hot and at idle?

on a FRST - what is the most likely cause?

car has apparently being standing for a while...

guy said it was stem seals, But i woulda thought this was more cold when starting rather than running.

It does sound like the stem seals, it would also smoke when hot.

Stem seals can give a big puff when starting first thing, and also at idle when there is enough vacum to pull the oil thru the seals

They're only shrapnel each, make sure you get the new 'top hat' shaped ones as they cant come loose

SP do a tool to let you change them without taking the head off - buy one from helfords, then clean it up and take it back for a refund when yer done

AND DONT DROP ANY COLLETS DOWN INTO THE SUMP!!!!!

Neil.

For £15 its worth doing the stem seals just to see if it is them, but it does sound like the turbos expired....

If you go out for a run in it then you can see if it smokes on the over-run - classic dead turbo sign. (IIRC!)

My Escos smokes at idle only - I've already started a thread on that. We still have no idea why but the turbo is most likely reason.

Maybe you schould try what I'm going to do - unbolt the turbo from the manifold and check if smoke comes from turbo or the engine...
