How are you disposing of the HD?

I saw an episode of a US computer programme that said even if you set fire to the HD they can still recover data from it. They ended up using a special prgramme to overwrite random 0 & 1's at least 7 times over each sector OR using thermite to melt the HD!

Didn't see it but I think, judging by the replies, I will take mine apart and cut it into very small pieces with my tin snips and then hammer the shit out of it, should I need to get rid of it

Some say you can wipe a HD clean using a big magnet, leave it next to it for a while
