Urgent help - air con compressor and shims ?
Hello all
following on from my air con problem (the magnetic clutch of the compressor has disappeared alone, must have fallen
), i managed, thanks to a miracle, to find the good part at Ford. The problem is, i have the magnetic clutch that goes before the pulley, but don't know how it is attached... and it also comes with shims of various widths (from 0.8 to 1.4 mm) and i don't know which one to use... can anyone help me, and post pics of the disassembled parts and of the compressor so i can fix all this tomorrow?
cheers

does something like this help?

taken from my company's american website http://www.sanden.com/support/servic..._contents.html
your compressor is manufactured by Visteon, that used to be part of Ford, and is probably an FS10 type compressor. try a search around for a service manual on that. it's important to get the gap correct between the clutch parts with the shims
if by the morning you still don't have what you need, i can ask someone within Ford for you

you won't have, or 26a and 26b, they're heavy duty options for tractors and stuff.
there's no way i can tell you what shims to use, as you need to assemble the components together until you have the right gap between the 2 friction surfaces (about 0.5mm)

ok, gap now set to 0.5mm thanks to the 0.7mm shim !
now, i tried to start the compressor, but was wondering, is it normal for it not to start because it's empty ? (no "tickle" noise when turning air con on, but of course no gaz yet in the circuit...) Maybe it's a security ?
thanks

exactly.
there is a pressure switch with 3 settings:
1) for low pressure that does not allow the compressor to come on if it is not reached
2) for medium pressure to put the fans onto maximum speed
3) for high pressure to cut off the compressor again for safety
if you want to test it, just feed 12v directly to the clutch (not while the engine is running, or you will damage the compressor internally)
