this is getting annoying now, once the cars hot and i pull up to a set of lights i get a smoke cloud out the back. pull off and its fine, on boost its fine. also does it sometimes when lifting off throttle.
pulled the boost hoses off the turbo earlier and there was no oil in them when is making me wonder if it is turbo or maybe something else.

anyone else had this?

sounds like the Turbo, mine was doing exactly the same thing and it was the turbo

 

Smoking on over-run sounds like the turbo, even if its not leaking into the boost hoses still could be the turbo gone on the exhaust side of the unit

 

yeah was thinking that, would just be majorly pissed of if i put a turbo n it and its was ok. there is a fair amount of up and down shaft play though

The play seem excessive? ive got abit in mine but doesnt smoke, if its excessive then its a good sign that the seals gone

 

yeah its excessive, diferent when its your own car though. if i was at work i'd put in for a turbo lol.

 

Valve stem seals are fucked.

 

thinking i'm going to replace the stem seals first just in case. there only about a pound each iirc

 

does it smoke on cold start?? if it doesnt then its the turbo!! if the stem oil seals have gone it WILL smoke on start up.

 

naa its not smoking on start up. thats why i didnt automatically think stem seals. its a tricky one.
i put another post up about a cheap turbo i'd found. reckon its any good?

in the early stages of the stem seals going then you could get smoke just on overrun, once they are properly gone then it will defo be on start up. Try the stem seals first before spending major bucks, its worth a try chap.

 

smoking on overrun can alo be a blocked breather,check breather pipes have not gone rock hard!!

 

when my stem seals went it was only on start up didnt get any smoke on overrun

 

thing is with my breather system its a bit strange, it had a little filter on the breather by the fuse and relay box but it got lost somewhere whilst driving. now its just lying open


is making a bit of a mess, what can i do to it and coudl this be causing it?

the filter u lost the one in the pic by the top strut?

 

yup thats the one, een with it on there it just dumped oil down my inner wing lol. need a breather kit of some sort

 

mines same set up as urs on efi so thats not the problem

 

you could fit a catch tank or get another filter
